They've also introduced a US & International wireless version for $279, which ships October 19.

The international version will work in "over 100 countries and territories", but Amazon doesn't specify if there are any additional charges for using it in a place other than the one where you bought it. It also looks like AT&T is the one that will be providing overseas roaming coverage for the GSM version. [Amazon]

Update: Ah, here's the bonus price.

Low Book Prices: New York Times Best Sellers and New Releases are $9.99, unless marked otherwise. When traveling abroad, you can download books wirelessly from the Kindle Store or your Archived Items for a fee of $1.99

<![CDATA[Eee PC 1000H Price Drops Even Lower; $450 on Amazon, $360 on MWave]]> In case Asus' $100 price drop in July just wasn't enough to make up your mind on whether to spring for a new Eee PC 1000H, the mini-marvel's gotten even cheaper now. Amazon is selling an 80GB, XP-equipped 1000H for just $450. Mwave also has several in stock for either $450 (while supplies last) or, if you're willing to go for an open box product, an almost criminal $359. [Amazon and mwave via Liliputing]

Tons of Samsung's series 5, 6 and 7 sets will see a drop of $100-$200, with Sony, Mitsubishi and Panasonic expected to follow suit by Labor day, so it's probably a good idea to hold your horses on that new set until the prices start to fall, Wal-Mart style. <![CDATA[Xbox 360 Pro Hits $299 at Target]]> The Xbox 360 price drop has pretty much gone official, with Target offering an in-store price of $299.99. The only thing weird about this is that it's not the rumored 60GB version that we thought was coming, so it's possible that Target is just clearing out old inventory for the new SKU? We won't know anything for certain until someone from Microsoft gets up on stage and says it. Or until they put out a press release. [Target]

<![CDATA[Xbox 360 Price Cuts Arrive in Australia, US Probably Following Soon]]> Normally we'd skip over Australia-only news, but the official Xbox 360 price cuts there most likely means those rumors of a drop in the US are pretty much locked in for sure (even if the European price reduction a few months ago didn't cross over). Kotaku says all three models got slashed, "with the Arcade down $50 to AUD$349, the Pro down a whopping $180 to AUD$499 and the Elite down $80 to AUD$649." With the new sticker of $349, the Xbox 360 Arcade is actually cheaper than the Wii, which is $400. Toilet flushing and the seasons aren't the only things backwards down there now. <![CDATA[Xbox 360 Price Cut Leaked By K-Mart Weekly Circular]]> A forum user High-Def Digest just posted a scan from next week's K-Mart weekly circular ad showing a price drop of $50 on the Xbox 360 Premium. The $299 price still includes a 20GB hard drive, and the timing of this supposed price drop matches up with whatever announcements Microsoft is going to have at E3—some of which which are rumored to either be a price drop or a newer version with slightly bigger storage. Kotaku points out that there's no price drop for either of the other two models, but with the Arcade sitting at $279, it seems more than likely that Microsoft will lower that as well. <![CDATA[T-Mobile Mobile Internet Price Drops Leaked]]> One of the main draws of getting T-Mobile internet, even though it's EDGE compared with the other three provider's 3G, was its low price. Now that price is getting even lower, with the Total Internet plan going down to $19 from $29, which is the plan you use with your smartphones like the T-Mobile Wing and Dash. BlackBerry plans also stay put at $19. The bad news is, however, that the Total Internet Package—the one that comes with T-Mobile Wi-Fi Access—will be going up to $39 for everyone. Changes should be coming September 16, which will be just in time for the iPhone unlocks to finalize and get the kinks worked out. [Boy Genus via Slashgear]

<![CDATA[American Express Honoring Price Protection For iPhones]]> Like we mentioned in our posts yesterday, if you purchased an iPhone on a credit card with a price protection plan, you can call them up and see if they will honor their return policy protection with the iPhone price drop. In our case, we've personally confirmed that American Express is offering the drop. All you have to do is call their return number.

As long as you're under the 90 days that their plan covers (which is everybody right now), just call 800-297-8019 and tell them that you're inquiring about the iPhone price drop. They should know what you're talking about, since they've been getting so many calls the past two days. The service representative we spoke to was extremely nice, only asking for some details like when you purchased the phone, whether you bought it at an Apple store, and how much you paid for it.

The rep said it wasn't usually covered under their plan, but since they love their customers so much, they're going to honor it this time. And that's why we love American Express. [Amex]

<![CDATA[The $100 iPhone Rebate: The What and the Why]]> Steve Jobs and Apple announced the $100 Store Credit "rebate" for all iPhone owners that were eager enough to buy an iPhone when it first came out. The early adopters had enough faith in the company to buy early, even though it cost a good $500/$600. It's a great gesture, in theory, but let's analyze why they did this.

Third, even though we are making the right decision to lower the price of iPhone, and even though the technology road is bumpy, we need to do a better job taking care of our early iPhone customers as we aggressively go after new ones with a lower price. Our early customers trusted us, and we must live up to that trust with our actions in moments like these.

Taken at face value, it's a great gesture to the early adopters, without which the iPhone would have tanked at launch. But if we dig a little deeper, we find out that there's not much loss in the decision.

$100 doesn't go a long way in Apple land. It can get you a keyboard and 3/5 of a mouse. It can you get an iPod shuffle and almost an entire set of spare headphones. It will buy you 5/6 of a Bluetooth headset. And this is just the cheapest items. Most people will use this $100 on something more expensive, like a Mac mini or as more of an incentive to buy a MacBook Pro or an iMac. Either way, the money's going back to Apple.

While we're poking around, what's up with the sudden price drop? What other product have you seen that dropped $200, or 1/3 of its price, only two months after it was launched? Did that product do well? Was it because the product was selling so fantastically that the manufacturer needed to drop the price? Probably not.

We're not complaining about "only" being offered $100 in rebate certificates. No, not at all. We think it's a great offer and a great gesture. But whether they did this because they really care about their customers, or they did this because people complained really, really loudly, is known only to Apple.

And for those of you who bought the iPhone on a credit card with price protection, $200 in cash is better than $100 in store credit. And if you're really sneaky, maybe you can get both. Don't tell them we said anything. [Gizmodo]

<![CDATA[Breaking: Apple Offering $100 Store Credit For All iPhone Owners]]> If you purchased an iPhone between June 29 and yesterday, Steve Jobs and Apple have just announced that they're going to give you a $100 store credit rebate for being an early adopter. No details yet on how you'll get your rebate, but it will be posted by next week. Full text of Jobs' open letter after the jump.

To all iPhone customers:

I have received hundreds of emails from iPhone customers who are upset about Apple dropping the price of iPhone by $200 two months after it went on sale. After reading every one of these emails, I have some observations and conclusions.

First, I am sure that we are making the correct decision to lower the price of the 8GB iPhone from $599 to $399, and that now is the right time to do it. iPhone is a breakthrough product, and we have the chance to 'go for it' this holiday season. iPhone is so far ahead of the competition, and now it will be affordable by even more customers. It benefits both Apple and every iPhone user to get as many new customers as possible in the iPhone 'tent'. We strongly believe the $399 price will help us do just that this holiday season.

Second, being in technology for 30+ years I can attest to the fact that the technology road is bumpy. There is always change and improvement, and there is always someone who bought a product before a particular cutoff date and misses the new price or the new operating system or the new whatever. This is life in the technology lane. If you always wait for the next price cut or to buy the new improved model, you'll never buy any technology product because there is always something better and less expensive on the horizon. The good news is that if you buy products from companies that support them well, like Apple tries to do, you will receive years of useful and satisfying service from them even as newer models are introduced.

Therefore, we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a rebate or any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. Details are still being worked out and will be posted on Apple's website next week. Stay tuned.

We want to do the right thing for our valued iPhone customers. We apologize for disappointing some of you, and we are doing our best to live up to your high expectations of Apple.

Steve Jobs
Apple CEO
