Too bad that they kept a great deal of gimmickry in the final product. This is probably one of the worst designs I've seen to come out of Dell, which is especially unfortunate because it has some really nice details, like the keyboard area, trackpad and the overall fit and finish. The recessed display and overhang/kickstand ass-end just make this thing plain fugly and ungainly to use as a regular laptop. The inclined keyboard looks like total shit to use for any extended period of time, but given the machine's terrible battery life, I guess that would not be much of a problem if you actually do attempt to take this thing out and about.
I will say this though. I hope Dell filters some of the nicer design elements down to its more budget-friendly products, because I feel that their lower end stuff just looks flat out chintzy, even the more expensive XPS systems, when observed in person.
@Dr. H. F. Danger: Yep. I find this thing very ugly. I'm going to be a little embarrassed for the first person I see using one of these at Starbucks. Assuming they sell any.
I've never been a fan of the MacBook Air, but for god sake's people, if you're going to buy a super slim laptop, get something other than an Adamo. #delladamoxpsprototypes
What is with all the widescreen love? I want a "notebook": a portable computer with a portrait display. I don't deal with excel spreadsheets and I don't want to watch movies. I work with documents - email, contracts, etc - so I always run in portrait mode. Why do all these netbooks give me 10 lines of vertical space to work with. It's not even conducive to most web browsing.
Maybe if I could open the netbook and rotate the display, that would work. Actually, I'd probably buy that in a second. Anyone know of such a device? #kohjinshadualscreennetbook
@aek8: wow. Of all the justifications I've heard (mainly around movies), that is the first that I've ever seen it drawn to how we take in information. Interesting (and thank you). #kohjinshadualscreennetbook
I'm a big fan of multiple display setups - I currently run a 24" widescreen and a 19" standard display (which both have about the same vertical size). I use the 19" display for email, IM and widgets, and the main display as my work area. So a netbook with multiple displays appeals to me for sure, even though I tend to do only the most rudimentary work with my netbook, maybe if I had more screen I wouldn't feel so constrained. #kohjinshadualscreennetbook
@weatherman: i still find my biggest annoyance with multi display setups is the middle black bit. WHY OH WHY does there have to be an edge to the screen. if it was seamless i would buy 10 instantly and use ATi eyefinity #kohjinshadualscreennetbook
@shokwaav: you get used to it, especially if you use each screen as a a separate workspace. But if you're looking to run a 180 degree flight sim, I could see how the bezels would be annoying. #kohjinshadualscreennetbook
The netbook, one of the cheapest categories of portable computers, combined with dual monitors, which are one of the most expensive (and power-grubbing) components of electronics.

@OCEntertainment: It's kind of like how a lot of movies go. The later ones are introduced first then they go back and make the prequels. And so it is with the original laptops and netbooks. Laptops came first and evolved into larger beasts. Then we went back and made their smaller netbook ancestors that are slowly evolving into laptops. #kohjinshadualscreennetbook
I love having a dual screen setup. Most people question it but it's something that once you use for a little while you don't want to give up. It's sad because at work I'm the only developer without twin wide screens (being an intern and all).
As for the lappy, slider mechanism looks a little fiddly but other than that pretty awesome. #kohjinshadualscreennetbook
i know some things...not everything, but some things. i have no idea what ultrasound baby-spotting is. not even a small clue. what is baby-spotting? and why must it be done via ultrasound? and why is it so difficult that it's important to note an advancement of 8x? #acoustichyperlens
@wileecoyote: It's not baby-spotting. It's "babe" spotting. The use of acoustic waves to detect hotties around you in 3D. Kind of like what Ben Affleck could do in that Daredevil movie. The benefits of 8x improvements should be self-evident.

Ok, I do like this idea. I like the USB powered screens more, but this will work. I'm pretty sure my next netbook/laptop upgrade in about three years will be to this style, if available and reliable.
Did anyone see the title and think of the Mooninites from Aqua Teen Hunger Force? If I was going to accept any digital being as my ruler, it would be them.
