In the midst of a recession, we'll continue our strategy of cannibalizing sales of our main brand with a low-cost alternative. Then, we'll redouble our efforts to slow acceptance of our main platform. And then, to cap it all off, we'll make sure that anyone who buys into the old platform will not be locked in by eliminating backwards compatibility.
(Seriously though, this is a big "meh". This isn't for new customers; it's aimed at replacing existing consoles.)

I'm personally still using an Xbox that I bought on launch day. Game stores are phasing out even used Xbox games, but it was nice being able to rummage through a huge bin of $10.00 games in recent years.

Give people a low-cost replacement for a PS2 to keep them from buying an XBox 360.

I'd love to find some cool hacks for mine like they have for the PS3, although I haven't seriously looked.
Is there any cool "out of the box" stuff happening with this thing that might be a compelling reason to get one?
