I still maintain that the boomerang controller would probably be one of the most comfortable two-handed game controllers out there, if only all of you whingers out there hadn't gotten your panties in a twist over the _looks_ of the one part of a game system that's supposed to be outside of your field of view during gameplay. I mean, seriously, WTH were you people thinking?
@Jonathan Cheng:
Have you ever used one, or are you just guessing at how it'd feel based on all the negative backlash against its _appearance_?
The 360 controller is too small for me, the PSwhatever controllers are all bent into goofy shapes that feel uncomfortable to even hold, and I had to search for quite a while before I finally found some gamepads that were robust enough that I could use them to play games on my PC. And then Mediaplay went out of business, and they were the only store that sold two of the models that I liked. Right now, Saitek controllers are the only ones I can stand to use out of the unibody variety, but frankly the most comfortable design is the split-body design that Nintendo came up with for the Wii. As long as your hands are large enough to wrap around the two controller pieces, you are no longer restricted by a form that was designed for one extreme of the body size spectrum (and at 6' tall, I seem to be something of a giant in the gamer world, based on controller design).
Love the PS3 remote, It has a useable Dpad and the triggers feel nice. Oh and it actually works for fighting games and I don't have to pay extra for it to be rechargable.
@Ryanraven: Agreed. I love how the 360 controller just feels so natural in my hands, but hate how uncomfortable the Dual Shock 3 feels, which sucks because I love me some Uncharted 2. It's honestly the only thing I dislike about my Slim, and would change if given the chance.
The dual-shock is one of the biggest reason I refuse to buy a PS3 and love my 360. If I'm gonna be holding something for hours on end, and isn't a boob, then it better be damned comfortable.
@Luizzle: @funlamb: @h41fgod001: @Bress Tess Iz: What are you guys using boobs for? I mean pillows would be the only thing you could describe them as comfortable. Not saying they're not nice.
Anyway, as many of you pointed out it was a grammatical error, in which I meant to make the comparison between boobs and the dual shock as being heaven and hell.
@madog: Yes, for the first PS3 systems had only Sixaxis controllers without rumble. a year later they came out with the Dualshock 3. DS3 says "Dualshock 3" and "Sixaxis"
Sixaxis kinda sucked though. left stick kept getting jammed.
@madog: The controller that shipped with the original PS3 was a sixaxis and because of legal disputes, it did not have rumble. It has been resolved and now they have rumble
@madog: They were without vibration because they were sued by the company who patented the vibration system. Neither Sony nor Microsoft had been paying royaylies. but Microsoft paid up, but Sony held out longer and finally reached an agreement and then brought out the DualShock 3.
@TailsNZ: Wow. Thanks for all of the confirmation guys :) the deevolution was greater than expected. I didn't realize that it was such a big deal at first.
Now they just need to evolve the PSP controls and gaming gods shall shine upon Sony once again!
No, Sony. The reason I play your console and not the actual good games I have on the Wii is because I don't have to stand back from my TV and swing and waggle - I can sit right in front of the screen. Sitting. Near the screen. Not being the game character, but controlling them.
I've been thinking lately it would be great to have a brain-immersion "Matrix" like system where you seemed to be there but didn't get physically exhausted. Current motion control is the opposite - you are very obviously not there, but you have to work out for it anyway.
@aokiqiao: It is, definitely. There are times when it's really fun, and even a few times when it's the best way to play a game. Most of the time though, I prefer traditional gaming, so if Sony plans to go mostly toward motion control, I don't see it ending well for them or their fans... I kind of take this as an idea for the distant future though, that they'd take smaller steps toward, like their wand concept, so that's ok.
I just think it's absurd to consider it the way to go when it seems to be so marginal, and hit and miss as it is. Tons of people bought the Wii... and so many "hardcore" gamers groan about how it fails to satisfy, and how they want to just use a controller. Probably many of them being Sony and Microsoft's core audience.
EyeToy, Magnificent? Exaggerating.
Seems like Sony is jumping the gun more than the Nobel Council did this year. (Note, I did vote for him, but it was premature.)
Look, I'm lazy. When I'm playing video games, I just wanna sit back and play the game. Passively. I don't want to jump around, or wave my hands, or punch the air like an idiot. I want a controller in my hands, and I want buttons. Lots of them.
I don't see how motion control is the holy grail. Mind control, maybe.
Well, motion control is officially dead. Once Sony throws its hat in the ring, they'll drag the technology down in endless betas and never release a final product.
@EBone: I came here to say pretty much that- Sony saying motion control is the "Holy Grail" is like your dad saying your girlfriend is really hot. Totally ruins it.

@SewerShark: LOOK BEHIND YOU, A THREE HEADED MONKEY!!!: the NEXT generation of motion control MIGHT be the Holy Grail. the stuff each company has been showing off so far doesn't seem great. then again, have we even seen a real game utilizing these motion control devices? show me some Killzone 2 that's playable on this and i'll buy it day one.
I personally think that this will be good eventually. Many people already have 120Hz TVs and more and more people are buying blu-ray players. Where it may stall is that I don't think people will buy new TVs and new Blu-ray players just for 3D. I would however buy a new TV for 3D games and I already have a PS3 so I'm covered for 3D blu-ray.
Am I the only one that's not one inch moved by this 3D shenanigans, and actually frows every time a decent flick is released in 3D?
I'm not wearing another pair of glasses over my prescription glasses, and I'm not watching another 3D movie or buying a 3D TV until they figure out how to do this without glasses.
P.S.: don't tell me to wear contacts. I would hate those 3D glasses even if I had perfect eyesight.
@Pazu: Yeah, but it's neat if it's optional like this. I'd normally do without, but sometimes it'd be fun to put on the glasses and watch hobbits run around the living room.
And I could swear there were some very expensive no-glasses sets shown here on Giz. But the viewing angle was like 2°.
