Oil Company to Use Tallest, Greenest Building in Europe As Its HQ

It looks like a modern version of a van Gogh painting rather than the future headquarters of an oil company, but with its concert hall, museum, hotel and business center, Gazprom Tower will be the tallest, greenest building in Europe. More »

The Bar Desk Makes Facebook Stalking Feel Like a Night on the Town

Capital Gate Tower is Four Times as Crooked as the Leaning Tower of Pisa

If you thought the Leaning Tower of Pisa was messed up, get a load of the Capital Gate tower currently being constructed in Abu Dhabi. Actually, saying it is "messed up" is incorrect given that the 18 degree westward incline was completely intentional. In fact, the project's architects have submitted a joint application to the Guinness Book of Records to recognize the tower as the 'most inclined in the world.' In order to support the awkward angle of the 35-story structure, the design called for a foundation of extremely dense reinforced steel mesh and 490 piles sunk nearly 100 feet into the ground. We can only wonder how many slaves will die or get injured building that. [World Architecture News via The Design Blog]

5250-Foot Tower Will Make Burj Dubai Look Like Pencil

Sure, the Burj Dubai tower looks amazingly tall, but it's final height— currently projected to be 2,300 feet— is less than half that of a new building planned for Saudi Arabia. It's going to be 5,250 feet high. Yup, that's just 30 feet short of a mile tall: taller than anything under construction anywhere, and making it easily the world's tallest building. Think they should stick a TV antenna on the top and go for that extra 30 feet? I sure do. More »
