If you are a low tenured employee at a big box chain and get shown the door, stop blaming The Man. Maybe you shouldn't have dropped out of high school when you were seventeen.
@mysonsnameisnova: Maybe you shouldn't have been born to a family that couldn't afford college, nor should you have been stupid enough to get sent to a useless inner-city or rural school for K-12.
I swear. Kids these days - it's like they'll get born to anyone! No standards, I tell ya.
I'm sick of everyone using these things for an excuse. My family didn't pay for my education I had to work hard during High School to pay for it. I worked hard in college to get scholarships, and I graduated with an Engineering degree.
If you succeed or fail in life is all dependent on you, not your environment, not your genetics, not your finances, not Barack Obama. Granted you might have to work harder than the next guy because of these things but thats life.
But I guess its the American way to blame everything and everyone for our shortcomings but ourselves.
@habib15: I would tend to agree. "Poor" people in America aren't really that poor, and bad schools in America aren't actually that bad. When I was in college, I knew a guy from Myanmar. He was on a government scholarship that took him to Singapore to do A-Levels, and then to CA to study chemical engineering. All this despite his family being dirt poor. He worked all the time. If you were ever in an engineering graduate program, chances are you know some people from India too. A vast majority of them were impoverished by US standards, but there they are, working their asses off.
Now, there is something to be said about the role of academics in different cultures, but to say that someone in America did not do well in school for lack of opportunities is almost always wrong. There is far more potential for social mobility here than in any other country that I know of.
@mysonsnameisnova: Not to be a smartass, or burst your bubble, but I dropped out of high school at 17 and didn't get my GED until a couple years ago (I'm 25 now). I also hold a top secret clearance and make $65K (starting salary, mind you).
So yeah, maybe some *should* drop out of high school at 17.
Before the grammar nazis come to try to justify the importance of school: this isn't helium...
@.king: Not to crap on your post but I don't think you did anything but reinforce his point.
Unless you are working at CC and threw a fit like this it is apparent you have some kind of skills that this tard does not have and worked at it.
If you have a top secret clearance than, AGAIN you did not conduct your life like this kid did either because of the back ground check needed (though you never said WHAT top secret clearance you have...there are MANY levels...just saying "top secret" actually means jack sh*t)
I will add that I bet that if you stated youre profession it would further point to some type of education and experience that reinforces his point further.
Somehow I don't think Bill Gates went around acting like a delinquent like this jerk did.
...or would you wan to put money on this kid being a success or failure later in life? I know which way this episode indicates where he is going.
@max11221: Late reply, I know... anywho, I don't think that reinforced his point at all. Unless I took it the wrong way, he (and a shyt ton of radio ads) pretty much say dropout = doomed to failure.
I don't have any formal education beyond my short lived time at a continuation school after I was thrown out of high school for an array of problems including acting like this jerk towards staff and campus supervisors.
I did my fair share of low level jobs and again acted like this jerk a lot because I thought "The Man" was always out to get me. Mainly a job where a supervisor was always trying to bust me for bringing weapons to work but never found them. Me and him were always butting heads but he really couldn't do anything unless he had another witness or proof. I look back now realizing he had a right to protect the other workers but still should have had a slight understanding that when I'm getting shot at in my own home and have to walk 45 minutes to work that shyt is no stroll through Mayberry. Just because someone doesn't have a police record 4 feet tall doesn't mean they are a model citizen.
And in regards to the clearance, I hold an SCI, but going the extra mile to point that out is just being snooty ;)
OK, I GET it, but once the employee breaks a ton of crap on his rant, it's going to cost him, they have address, phone etc on W2, and might even get to spend a night in the crowbar hotel!!!
@ApologeticBale_GitEmSteveDave: Yeah, if you're gonna stoop to burning bridges, you really should just nuke the site from orbit just to be sure. At best he looked passive-aggressive.
Srsly tho, this guy knocked over about 5 boxes. Big whoop. I've seen little kids at Wal-mart take out more merchandise than this dolt. The worst damage he did was make the rest of us waste our time reading this article.
Basically, all he did was throw a tantrum. His former coworkers are going to have to clean up the mess. I would definitely be angry if I were him, but making a show out of it doesn't help anyone.
And then, my manager told me that I had to throw out my garbage in the break room. So I told him, "Listen ass, what I do with my Fritos bags is my business. Ain't no man gonna tell me to throw out my trash!" And then, on top of that, he wanted me to be more "pro-active" in helping customers and not be so rude. Let me tell you, for $8 an hour, I'll loiter in your store. But if you want me to be civil and not cuss at women, that'll cost you $20.
I fail to see how "taking a stand" correlates to pouting because the company that you work for wants to pay you to hold a liquidation sign outside for a couple hours. Bring your iPod and a warm jacket, seems like easy money to me.
Also, the grand exit needed more t-shirt ripping, screaming, and fire.
"would have", "would have", "would have", "would have", "would have". Think about the meaning of the word "of", now take a look at your sentence. Does it make any fucking sense?
Sorry, bit of an overreaction there. But seriously, WTF man? I bet you're one of those people who would HAVE used "your" in place of "you're", sixteen words back.
@Osas Faluyi: I feel your pain, dude. But let it go - you'll only make yourself crazy. It's like trying to empty the ocean with a teaspoon.
Then again, I can't keep my inner Grammar Nazi in check either when I see a person try to correct someone else's grammar, when their own post is riddled with grammatical and spelling errors. Just! can't! stop! :D
Forcing him to hold a sign outside? I'm more than sure that wasn't in his job description. Good job b, don't let managers push you around, I would've done the same.
@Ricorich196: Depending on where that store is located (I noticed the guy as well as customers in coats), it may very well be against some kind of working conditions for him to be out in extreme cold just to hold a liquidation sign.
I'da walked too. Especially if I had more time on the job than other folks.
