Nope, the DSi already appears to have been cracked again.

While the latest DSi firmware 1.4 tempted users with social networking on Facebook, it also blocked infamous R4 cartridges, a popular way to load pirated software on the DS/DSi. But according to this clip, Nintendo's efforts were again futile, as pirates have already circumvented new security measures.

The moral of the story: The DSi, even with its aggressive PSP-style updates, has no more chance of preventing piracy than the DS. [Kotaku]

<![CDATA[Nintendo DSi Says "Hello World"]]> While Nintendo may have sealed out DS piracy tools from use on the DSi, according to this humble YouTube clip, one Japanese hacker may have already wormed his way into the system, loading his own code despite security measures. (Unfortunately, he did not share his methods.) So while we could still be a long way from loading emulators and DS games at will, it's certainly not a bad sign when a new system gets cracked open within 3 days of its release. [GBAtemp]

<![CDATA[Nintendo DSi Blocks Pirated Flash Cards]]> We pretty much figured that Nintendo had another reason for releasing the DSi other than just wanting to give us a prettier system like, say, wanting to stop rampant global piracy on the DS. Now that the DSi is out in Japan, the public has tested all of the flash card piracy devices and found the results to be very, very bad. None of them work.

R4 - Failed
EZ Flash V - Failed
CycloDS - Failed
G6 DS Real - Failed
M3 DS Real - Failed
Supercard DS One - Failed
iTouch DS - Failed
FCard - Failed
NCard - Failed
M3 DS Simply - Failed
U2DS - Failed

It's possible that there's a card not currently on that list, but from our quick glance, all the big boys in DS piracy are covered. [GBA Temp via GoNintendo]

<![CDATA[Nintendo Sues Piracy-Enabling R4 Cart, R4 Sales Predictably Skyrocket]]> Yesterday, Kotaku reported on Nintendo and 54 software makers filing an injunction to stop the sales of the R4 and similar devices in Japan. For the uninitiated, the R4 allows you to download DS games online and play them on your DS. Yes, DS piracy. And now said piracy is threatened! So what does that mean? R4 sales are through the roof. Hell, even I bought one yesterday.

The R4 is sold all over the place in Akihabara, the nerd district of Tokyo, and the employees at stores there have already noticed an uptick in sales.

The rush in demand has been amazing. These devices always sell well. But this weekend should be staggering, don't you think?

Yes, I do think. So if you're on the fence about getting one or just discovered their existence thanks to this lawsuit, now seems like a pretty good time to jump on board. For, uh, homebrew games only, of course. [Kotaku]

<![CDATA[Delicious (and Not So Delicious) GMC PC Case Designs]]> Although we think CeBIT is largely a waste of convention center, one standout was Korean PC-case master GMC (no relation to America's own troubled automotive titan). Its sexiest case concept was by far the disc-shaped red-and-black beauty captured by Aving above. Even its simple name, "Pot," evokes a feeling of peace and ease, tinged with faint pangs of hunger. The other designs below are innovative and practical, though some suffered from designer overkill, not to mention an overwhelming reliance on the color green. [Aving USA; GMC]

<![CDATA[Ricoh Caplio R4 and RR630 Announced]]>
Ricoh announced two digital cameras, the Caplio R4 and the Caplio RR630. The 6-megapixel R4 (left) has a 7.1x optical wide-angle zoom, which at 28-200mm (35mm equivalent) the company says is the largest range in the compact class. It also features image stabilization in a small form factor of 3.7 inches wide and just over an inch thick. It is a 2.5 inch viewfinder and will be available in silver or black in March at an unannounced price.

The RR630 is a 6.1-megapixel camera with a 3x optical zoom. It has a 2-inch LCD viewfinder, has a movie and a macro mode, and weighs just five ounces. Pricing or availability info was not available.

<![CDATA[Panasonic W4 is the R4 with a Moustache]]> The W4 from Panasonic has been released and it's basically the R4 with a different name. Different? The W4 has a 12.1" screen and a DVD-R/RW and RAM burner. That's all. Same Pentium M 1.2Ghz processor and DDR RAM. Even the hardware and chipset are the same. What gives Panasonic?
