Is this any better than the latest 1TB deal on Newegg for $125?

USB only is a dealbraker. Hear that LaCie?

Unless it's USB 3.0 which is supposed to be 1000000% faster than anything USB out there.

@AldenOedipus: Is anyone using USB 3.0 yet? Anyway, I think that they just used USB to keep the cost down. FW peripherals are generally expensive. Western Digital gets away with their prices by putting the shittiest hard drives they can.

I kinda like it. But USB 2 only is kind of disapointing.

Also i don't like the fact that these devices always seem to be surrounded by monkeys throwing stuff at each other and also the devices makes planets explode... I like my Jupiter, europa be damned!

@circa86: I bought four of those Porsche design 250GB drives... All of 'em failed about about 4 months. I think the Porsche design, while visually interesting, sucked vis-a-vis heat dissipation.

@Thud: I feel very lucky, albeit wary, about my Porsche LaCie FW drive. It's been 2 years now and it hasn't failed me yet, but I have another drive as a backup so I won't lose anything if it dies. :S

USB 2.0 only? Wow. I would have expected a lot more out of a 2TB drive just hitting the market. At least throw in Firewire 800 if nothing else...

If you really want a performance 2TB external, go with the setup I just picked out: [jevidon.tumblr.com]

@Justin Evidon: If it were Firewire, the price would've been a great deal more than this, though LaCie generally has some of the cheapest Firewire external drives out there, with Western Digital coming in a bit cheaper. I wish it were network capable. Gigabit Ethernet can be a great deal faster.
