A two-foot toy helicopter. That's what? Over ten times smaller than the real thing? Confusion understandable.

With all the panic during rush-hour, only one man actually immediately realized that the 'copter was a wee bit too small. I hope they give that particular officer an award of some kind. Or better yet, a promotion to a department that wouldn't give me a ticket for racing an RC car. [Post and Courier via Obscure Store]

<![CDATA[If You Can't Dust Your Crops WIth a Plane, Use a Helicopter]]> When the time came to spread pesticides over his rice field, this farmer faced a choice: lug around a heavy poison-filled backpack in the sweltering heat, or spray the chemicals from an RC helicopter. He made the right decision.

According to the source, crops in Japan are tiny and scattered throughout residential areas. Dusting the crops by plane, therefore, is impossible. Farmers normally tend the crops with pump activated backpack sprayers, but where's the fun in that? Kudos to this guy for figuring out a way to both spray the field and fly an awesome toy around all morning.

If the farmer ever finds himself with any bigger pests to deal with, he should talk to this guy about how to add a little more firepower to the rig. [Japan Probe]

<![CDATA[Mini RC Helicopter is Fueled By USB]]> As if there weren't enough USB distractions out there already, Brando is now offering a mini RC helicopter than can be refueled from your laptop or desktop.

Beyond that, it appears to be a fairly standard 3-channel helicopter. The way I see it, a USB device should involve the computer in more ways than just a power source. It certainly wouldn't be the first RC device to do so. Still, if you are looking to do something other than work at work, Brando's helicopter isn't going to break the bank at $40. Then again, you could forgo the USB functionality and LEDs, saving yourself a few bucks in the process. [Brando]

<![CDATA[World's Largest RC Chopper Is Probably Big Enough for a Very Short Pilot]]> The image associated with this post is best viewed using a browser. This RC helicopter is a scale model of a Russian Mi-24 chopper, a monstrous beast that's 55 feet long. The scale version looks about 1/8th the size, and still scares the crap out of us. Check out the video below.

We don't really know anything about the giant "toy" helicopter, except the model it's based on, but the video below shows that it really works, and that we really don't want it falling into the hands of any kids. [LiveLeak via Craziest Gadgets]

<![CDATA[R/C Helicopter Used to Smuggle Contraband Into Prison]]> Guards at Elmley Prison in the UK recently spotted a R/C helicopter fly over the jailhouse walls towards the prisoner's quarters with a small cargo attached underneath the fuselage.

Prison officials believe that the cargo in question was most likely drugs or a cellphone, but a thorough search of the premises came up empty. Apparently, this "ghost chopper" and its payload disappeared as mysteriously as it arrived.

I'll admit, that's pretty ingenious—but it shouldn't have worked. The chopper was picked up on CCTV cameras the night before, so they should have been looking for it. For their sake, I can only hope that the cargo was drugs or a cellphone and not some sort of weapon. [Daily Mail]

<![CDATA[LED R/C Helicopter Designed for Night Landing/Crashing]]> In daylight, we'll admit, the Roboppi looks a bit odd. But at night, this R/C helicopter appears as nothing more than a floating orb. It's a simple design. A few LEDs sit on the blades' turbine so that they naturally spin when the copter is in flight. Cruising for 6 minutes at a time per 25 minute charge, the Roboppi may be a little overpriced at $41. But convincing your friends that a UFO is in their backyard will create memories for a lifetime. Here's what the Roboppi looks like in flight:

<![CDATA[World's Fastest Electric RC Chopper Can Chop 10 Heads per Second]]> I don't know what's more terrifying about the new Rave 450-class electric helicopter—which the experts say is the fastest electric RC helicopter in the world: the fact that it buzzes like an angry giganormous killer wasp who just got three speeding tickets driving a Ferrari on a coke overdose, or the fact that it looks like it can chop your head faster that you can say "325mm or 350mm blades." <![CDATA[Gizmodo Video: Picco Z R/C Helicopter Crashes, Loves the Smell of Napalm in the Morning]]>
We've been feeding our R/C helicopter jones with this Picco Z copter, a micro-flyer made of styrofoam and capable of flailing around for a full 8 minutes on a 20-minute charge.

We're still working on our piloting technique, but even with the special aluminum weights attached to the nose, the little bugger just doesn't want to go forward. Hovering is its specialty, as you can plainly see. That, and crashing. A lot. The horror!

Still, it's tons-o-fun for your $39. Plus, the babes in the office liked it. A lot. In fact, one of 'em was at the helm of this mini-beast as we shot this footage. In fact, she's the best chopper pilot in the whole damn joint.

<![CDATA[Palmsize Micro Copter Looks Like a Bell Jet Ranger]]> We've seen a few tiny R/C helicopters around here, but most look more like little mechanical mosquitoes than actual Bell Jet Rangers. But this Palmsize Micro Copter looks closer to the real thing.

Needing just 15 minutes of charging for a 5-to-7-minute flight, it might be a bit more difficult to control than that Micro Mosquito, but it costs $20 less—it's $50, available December 8.
