Giz Commenter Meetup: Watchmen on 3/7 in NYC

Looking to hang out with some fellow Giz readers? Also looking to see Watchmen but have no friends to see it with? Let us solve both problems for you. Updated

OMG! Ponies, Kaiser-Machead, Get 'Em SteveDave and '92 BuickLeSabre are organizing a commenter meetup based around the 6pm showing of Watchmen at Lincoln Square ~~on March 7th~~. This isn't an official Gizmodo event, and I don't think any editors are able to make it, but that shouldn't stop you from going.

Update: OK, so the boneheads scheduled this without checking to see if the movie was sold out, which it is. So just read the comments below and they'll get everything sorted out, or harass Ponies at the email above and he'll let you know what's what.

Hey, if you couldn't make it to last night's Gizmodo Gallery Reader meetup, we're sorry we missed you. But you're probably more sorry! At Giz Gallery: Reader Meetup With a Back To the Future DeLorean

We've been teasing out a few of our 40+ Gizmodo Gallery gadgets on display next week in NYC, like the 103-inch Panasonic plasma, Apple prototypes and the first Walkman. But did I mention we'll have a DeLorean parked outside the Gallery next Friday night December 5th, coinciding with the reader meetup? No? Did I mention its a car with full Back To the Future props. No? Huh, funny. I probably should have told you that earlier. Anyhow, here are the details for the reader meetup, which I hope you can come to.

The reader meetup takes place across the street from the Gallery, at a place called The Annex (not to be confused with REED ANNEX where the gallery is hosted.) The address is 152 Orchard Street and we'll be there at 9 PM SHARP on Friday December 5th.

Doug from Gizmine is coming, since the Gallery is partly his creation, and so will Adam, Benny, Matt, Jesús, John Mahoney, Seung the Intern and Chris Mascari. I'll be there, too, so please come on by and say hello, whether you're OMG Ponies or Buick Lesabre who are some of the best daily commenters a blog could ever ask for, or a casual Giz reader. I welcome you!

I'd also like to take the time to say thank you to Jesús Diaz for the wonderful banners in all the Gizmodo Gallery posts. Man is a rare talent.

The Annex is having another event for someone else at 10 and we'll likely wander somewhere else before then, so get there early so we can roam Manhattan like a pack of wild nerds.

Chicago Gizmodo Party, In Photos

Thanks again to everyone who made it out to the Hotel Sax for the Gizmodo's Chicago reader meetup. For those who didn't make it out, I think the night went pretty well, as people alternated between the line for the bar and the dual Rock Band 2 stations, the official ecosystem of the event. We never got a firm headcount, but we'd estimate the attendance to have been just south of 200 people, an eclectic mix of ages, professions and musical abilities. Click through for the full gallery.

Hopefully we can all meet up again in the future. And a special thanks to the Hotel Sax for throwing such a successful event.

Chicago Gizmodo Reader Meetup: Saturday, September 27th

Wired's Nextfest opens to the public in Chicago's Millennium Park on September 27th. So we figured it was the perfect time to throw a get-together for the Midwestern contingent of our readership. Those guys in Tahoe and New York have had their fancy parties, and it's time to show 'em how we do it here in Chicago. So everyone's invited (21 and over) whether you're a fan of Giz or just a lowly, fellow tech writer looking to have a night of fun, food and booze on the house. Here are the full details:

The Hotel Sax will be generously hosting us for the party, a Chicago spot that's gotten some accolades for fun tech stuff they've done with Microsoft. We'll be taking up their 4th floor meeting area (you can walk in and take the elevator directly there), a pretty comfortable spot with a 20-or-so-foot wide screen, a big waterwall fountain and an open bar from 8-10:30PM (party goes to 11).

Thanks to their A/V department, there should be pleasant fraternizing with the melodious backdrop of head-to-head Rock Band 2.

As for the location, the Hotel Sax is located right next to the House of Blues and Marina City. Super easy. Everyone from Chicago knows where I'm talking about. Anyone not from Chicago can get there by cab with no problem at all.

I'm planning on a good turnout (we're fast-approaching 100 RSVPs), but do me a favor and email tips with 'RSVP' in the subject line if you haven't yet (and you plan on coming, of course), just so I can get a rough headcount. It'll be pretty much just me representing from the Giz side, but hope to meet you there!
