Milliamps!]]> Looks like the $12 Energizer E2 rechargeable D battery is actually a AA battery (retail price: $3) in a larger shell. Try to keep your anger at an appropriate level: A short, derisive grunt should be just right. [Natural News]

<![CDATA[X-Power 1 iPhone USB Cord Comes With Built-In Rechargable Battery And....Gives Orgasms To Kristen Bell]]> The X-Power 1 USB cord has a built-in rechargeable battery to give you a bit of backup power on the go (assuming you remember to take the cord with you). Their ad seems to imply more than that though.

The benefit of the X-Power 1 is that it's both a backup battery and a charger all in one and you don't have to deal with carrying around an extra gadget. The built-in rechargeable battery backup unit will be charged very time you connect your iPod or iPhone to your computer using the X-Power 1 and you'll get more quality time with your gadget:

  • Additional talk time of 4.5 hours on 3G and 9 hours on 2G. Up to 5.4 hours additional on Wi-Fi.
  • Standby time of up to 270 hours. Audio Playback up to 20 hours and Video Playback 6 hours.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for extra time with my iPhone and less junk in my bag, but how the hell did that innocent USB cable result this:

<![CDATA[Sanyo Eneloop Batteries Go Cs and Ds]]> Sanyo's just expanded their lineup of rechargeable batteries to include Cs and Ds, two sizes Jesus can't wait to get his hands on. They're rated as being rechargeable up to 1000 times, which is quite a few sessions of whatever it is you're doing with C and D batteries. There's also a new charger for these, and all of the above will be released September 12. Stock up on a few for the inevitable zombie invasion. [Sanyo]

<![CDATA[Freeloader USB Battery Charger Supposedly World's Smallest]]> This new gizmo will charge a pair of your AA or AAA NiMH/NiCad batteries in three to four hours of slurping power from a USB socket, no power brick required. It's also apparently the "smallest and lightest" in the world. That may or may not be true, but it certainly is small enough to slip into your laptop case and not worry about. It's even rubberized to make it a bit tougher for portability, so if you're the type who needs AA batteries out in the field, it might be useful. Available now, for $25. [Geek Alerts]

<![CDATA[Pioneer Sneakers Light Your Way With Built-In Headlights]]> Designers Feijun Chen & Bin Zhao clearly were reading Skymall when they dreamed up these "Pioneer" sneakers with built-in recharging headlights. They've got a battery inside which charges on each step, using some mysterious tech that doesn't look piezoelectric. Apparently this can power the LEDs in the front for a full 12 hours. So you can, you know: run in the dark down dim-lit streets, or something. Maybe they'd be handy for doggy-do detection? Just a concept, for now. [Yanko design]

<![CDATA[Duracell's Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries Hold Power For a Year]]> Duracell's latest NiMH rechargeable batteries have two neat features. One, they hold power for up to 365 days without use, and two, they come pre-charged, so you won't have to juice them up before plopping them into your camera. The first is great so your batteries are always ready for use even if you haven't touched them for a while, and the second is great so your batteries are ready for use when leaving the store. Too bad these are $12.99 for a four-pack. [PRNewswire via Coolest Gadgets]

The USBCell USB-rechargeable AA batteries have landed at ThinkGeek for $20 per pair. <![CDATA[USB Shaver: Rechargeable, Less Crappy]]> A bit like the other USB Shaver, this second horseman improves on the first in both price and functionality. Instead of being tethered to a USB port, this shaver is battery powered and rechargeable, which means you don't have to get shavings all inside your laptop because your USB cable is only 3 feet long. Good news for the poor Dell repairman who has to refurbish your machine.

Other improvements: $22 instead of $30, straight-foil instead of dual-heads, and a light-up USB port so you know when it's plugged in. Not bad for a razor you're not afraid to accidentally leave behind in your hotel room.

<![CDATA[How To Recharge Standard Duracell Batteries]]> There's a reason why standard batteries contain warnings for you NOT to attempt to recharge them. But, if you're either brave or cheap, here's a guide to extend regular batteries by around three charges with 50 cents of parts from The Shack.

Glossing over the details—we fell asleep during just about all of our EE classes in college—you do run the risk of dripping weak acid on your hands. Or worse. And by worse, we mean possibly exploding a battery in your face. Not our idea of fun, unless you're trying to hit on that cute nurse in the ER. Hey baby, is that shrapnel in my eye or did you get a new haircut?

<![CDATA[Rechargeable Crash Helmet]]> The M5 Switchblade sports a built-in rechargeable power system. That means it can be more easily integrated with other electronics gear, like Bluetooth devices and head lights.

An integrated power supply enables existing helmet electronics to be made smaller, last longer, and have more range due to the increased power output (up to 7.4VDC). Auxiliary electronics and systems made to work on or with a crash helmet no longer need to carry their own power supply, the crash helmet now is the power supply!

These helmets are being used by law enforcement now, and will soon be available to the public according to the company's managing director (who sent this our way).
