To avoid the embarrassment, point your browser to gizmodo.com/tag/not:nsfw.

This works with other content as well, like gizmodo.com/tag/not:apple, or not:microsoft. You can also stack not: parameters to filter multiple tags. For example: http://gizmodo.com/tag/not:nsfw/not:apple.

Jeremiah89 offered up this helpful for RSS readers:

Just add index.xml to the end of the url.

So, gizmodo.com/tag/not:nsfw/index.xml

Unfortunately, we still don't have a not:anythingthatisn'tpuppiesorcottoncandyorrainbows tag in place yet, so you'll have to wait on that one.

<![CDATA[Today's Your Last Day To Download the Windows 7 Release Candidate]]> Any hour now, Microsoft will shut off the tap for downloads of the Windows 7 Release Candidate—a free, almost-complete test version of the OS that you can use for free, uninhibited, until March of next year. Not that most of you will need reminding, but there are plenty of reasons to try it out.

Microsoft will still hand out RC license keys for an undisclosed amount of time, just not the actual OS files, so don't trip over yourself too much. Just make sure that if and when you find your ISO elsewhere—it'll be called something along the lines of Windows 7 RC 7600, the newer the better—that you make sure it's clean. [Windows 7 on Giz]

<![CDATA[Why You Should Care About HTML5]]> The boring answer: because it's going to form the underpinnings of the entire internet within a few years, and most major browsers—including Chrome, now—support it. The better answer: because it's really cool, enabling webtoys like this, without plugins.

A year ago, this cool (as in smoooooth) visualization, which plays music, displays fluid animations, and integrates live with Twitter, would've been something you'd have to make in Flash or Silverlight, requiring programmers to learn a new languages, and viewers to download plugins. Now it's possible to pull off using just the new HTML5 spec, which includes support for video and audio embedding, Canvas—for scriptable animations—and all kinds of other rich content that'll make current HTML-based webpages look like Geocities templates. Did I mention that YouTube could lose Flash altogether? Yeah, that.

Actually, the 9Elements design studio seems to have written their entire homepage in HTML5, so grab the latest build of Firefox, Opera or Chrome and have a look at what it can do. You'll be seeing a lot more of this before too long, and if your newest gadget's software supports it, consider it a worthwhile feature. [9Elements via Reddit]

<![CDATA[Amazon Kindle 2 Liveblog: Monday, February 9, 10AM EST]]> Even though no one's come out and said it, Amazon is almost certainly introducing Kindle 2 at an event in New York on Monday. And we'll be there covering live, as usual.

Tune into the Gizmodo Liveblog (live.gizmodo.com) for the complete play-by-play as Bezos drops Amazon's newest e-book reader hardware. And could there be anything about Kindle apps for mobile phones too, Jeff? We shall see.

So yeah, Monday, 10:00AM EST, Kindle 2. But if this is all a sham and the non-specific event invite is to unveil Amazon's brand new Earth-friendly bubble wrap, we're gonna be pissed. [Gizmodo Live]

<![CDATA[Download Windows 7 Now, Before It's Too Late]]> Tomorrow is the last day to download Windows 7 and get a license key from Microsoft. If you've been putting it off, it's do-or-die time. Here's quick access to everything you need. UPDATED.

Update: Apparently when the Windows Team said they were removing the limit on Windows 7 downloads through Jan. 24, they didn't mean you wouldn't be able to download it after Jan. 24. The Windows Team announced tonight that you actually have until Feb. 10 to start downloading Windows 7 and through Feb. 12 to finish downloading it. And you'll still be able to get product keys after Feb. 12, though they don't specify for how long.

Here's where you get the download and product key—pick 32- or 64-bit (go 64), and you'll need a Windows Live account. After punching in your user and pass, you're presented with a product key and a download link. If you're at work and can't download right now, what you could do is go ahead and grab a product key (or two) so you'll have 'em, and then grab the install files later. Not sure if Microsoft will still be hosting the download afterward, but there are other places to get the Windows 7 install files, luckily.

Don't know what to do once you've got it downloaded? We've got you covered with a complete guide to installing Windows 7, pretty much pain-free, so you can test drive Windows 7 while keeping your current OS install totally intact. Here's how to make it happen on Boot Camp on Macs.

<![CDATA[The Mother of All Lego Star Wars Battles]]> Tim Goddard is at it again with his Star Wars mini-fighters. This time he has built the mother of all Lego Star Wars battles, with thousands of pieces and hundreds of spaceships, Imperial walkers, Rebel hovercrafts and even a movable turbolaser train. The level of detail and complexity is mindblowing, as you can see in the massive gallery:

I'm tempted to donate all my Lego to Tim to see if he can build a complete Death Star trench scene at this scale, with a couple hundred fighters and towers.

The only bad thing about this scale, however, is the lack of minifigs, which are my personal obsession. And yes, you know exactly what I'm going to say now: Go Miniman Go! contest! The end of October is the deadline and we have priceless vintage sets that run for thousands of dollars in eBay, waiting for the winners. So get out your minifigs and shot your video using any technique you want.

Check the contest and the rules here.

<![CDATA[World Doesn't End on Wednesday, and You Can Watch It Live]]>

We have joked about it in the past, but as our mailboxes get filled with clueless people and psychopaths' emails we will have to say it again: there's no chance that the Earth will cease to exist as CERN scientists activate the Large Hadron Collider this Wednesday. So, to all the morons, please stop writing and watch the LHC start up on September 10th using the real-time CERN video broadcast.

And by the way, there's still a chance that one day an asteroid like the one in the video hits Earth, as it has happened six times before. So our advice still applies: don't do your homework, have sex, and love everyone. Except these bozos:

The clueless type

hello here,
the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the worlds largest particle accelerator complex. which will replicate the beginning of a galaxy. in other words something like the big bang theory, the first attempt to use it is scheduled for september, 10, 2008 or this wednesday. i dont know much about it but if it works it will be the single greatest discovery of man kind. answering such questions like "how did we get here?" or "how did it all start?" also time travel and alternate dimensions come into question. But if it fails it could become a black hole and we'll all die. i just heard this from a friend today and was wondering if you guys knew anything about it. i did some research of my own but im still confused was hoping for a dumbed up version. also i'm a new gizmodo member and would like to be allowed to comment. thanx

Man, you are already banned and you haven't even been approved.

The psychopath type

con-artist fascist net-nazi bbc.co.uk and con-artist mccain/obama/bush do absolutely nothing to defend the u.s. constitution, ergo; if the LHC is allowed to go online, you have failed at defending the constitution or world safety ya clown porn con-artists (if the shoe fits)...the bbc fails to list all the hidden/missing variables in regards to LHC operations..thier "world service" is a "world dis-serice" via dis-informing the public of potential dangers and frauds involved...I will from this date forward add the BBC as complicit in the cern-lhc and affilates decades worth of frauds as I have done with obama/mccain, scott morely, frank wilczek and robert jaffe (to name a few) of clown porn fktard con-artist artist MIT as well as marjorie con-artist shapiro of berkeley, ken bloom of UNL, arkani ahmed of harvard and conan obrien for featuring con artist robert fisher of MIT who works at the atlas detector, ergo; unsolicited comunication of LHC safety...

I hope the FBI is tracking this dude, because I think he looks like the kind of guy that can kill people at random. [CERN LHC Livecast, video via Dark Roasted Blend]

This folderpiece—made by reader Damien Nozay—is the first entry in our ongoing desktop clutter art contest, sent just a couple hours after the announcement. Minutes later, reader Zachary Colen sent us this retro folder illustration of the 'Killjoy' medal from Halo 3:

<![CDATA[WWDC07 Reminder: We'll Be There]]> Hola muchachos! This is just a reminder that Apple's WWDC is just a month away (June 11), and that you can look forward to seeing a feature-complete version of Leopard demoed at the keynote/conference. Attending developers will be getting a new beta version—not the feature-complete one that will be shown—to take home and test.

In light of new rumors about and their LED plans, we may be getting some surprise announcements about those changes there as well. Or, if the Mac Pro release before NAB was any indication, we might get a release the week before.

<![CDATA[Mini Reminder, Good for the Forgetful]]> The Mini Reminder is a small device that may save you a lot of hassle and trouble. This tiny device can tie onto any object that you usually carry around or have with you all day. Attach the transmitter and slide the small receiver into your pocket or onto your belt. If the transmitter and receiver become seperated by 10-25 feet (customizable distance), the receiver will begin to beep or vibrate alarming you that you forgot your stuff. Sounds pretty handy for nuclear football duty. The government keeps busting my chops because I manage to leave that thing everywhere! Funny story—one time I left it at a strip club, boy was my face red when I had to pick that thing up from the V.I.P. room. Mini Reminder is available for $40.
