The Robini-i has the usual programmable stuff, but also includes playing field accessories for real-world matches (if you can convince a friend to get one), and connects to an online community.

The two-wheeled bot has 16 sensors and four processors, and either happily wanders around on its own, or you can take control. Windows software and a USB hookup lets you program all aspects of its behavior, including moods, reaction to stimuli, and if it freaks out or mingles when it meets other robots.

The $250 starter kit (available September 28) includes base stations, hubs, and gaming cards to set up real world playing fields. What caught my eye: a specially tagged ball allows for a variety of competitive ball games (the Roboni-i has a special scoop and uses Zigbee RF to ).

You can also go online to play video-game based matches, track stats, or get tips from the Robini-i community.

Feels kinda pricey, but robot soccer would make for a wicked drinking game. [Robonica via Gizmag]

<![CDATA[World's Largest RC Chopper Is Probably Big Enough for a Very Short Pilot]]> The image associated with this post is best viewed using a browser. This RC helicopter is a scale model of a Russian Mi-24 chopper, a monstrous beast that's 55 feet long. The scale version looks about 1/8th the size, and still scares the crap out of us. Check out the video below.

We don't really know anything about the giant "toy" helicopter, except the model it's based on, but the video below shows that it really works, and that we really don't want it falling into the hands of any kids. [LiveLeak via Craziest Gadgets]

<![CDATA[Remote Controlled Heli Cockroach]]> Until we get organic cyborg beetles at the pet store, we'll have to use these RC helicopters that look like real roaches.

Here's an idea: get a dozen and control them all using the same channel. In a four star restaurant. 30 minutes of charge equals 5 minutes of sheer dining terror and a few months of painful health inspection investigations. If you're terrible and into that kind of thing. [Gizmine]

<![CDATA[Ultraman Figure Takes to the Skies...With the Help of Some Propellers]]> Fans of the early Ultraman series now have something to put on their gift list thanks to this R/C craft from Tokyo-based toy-maker Wiz.

After that, it's only a matter of constructing a crude cityscape diorama and throwing in a spray-painted Godzilla or something into the mix to live out your Japanese superhero fantasies. Although, I highly doubt that this $35 toy will make it out of Japan anytime soon. [Wiz via Crunchgear]

<![CDATA[Remote Controlled USS Seawolf Brings Cold War Fun to Your Hot Bath]]> If bath time's gotten boring for you recently, why not try reenacting the Cold War in your tub? Here's a submersible radio-controlled replica of the USS Seawolf SSN-21 submarine, with a funny little periscope themed remote thrown in for good measure. The real Seawolf was commissioned in 1989 as a response to the Soviet Akula class of submarines. No word on whether RC-versions of those are out there somewhere. Available at Brando for $55. <![CDATA[Destroy Your G.I. Joes With Remote-Controlled VS Tanks]]> Definitely more awesome than Tokyo Wars, VS Tanks feature rotational turrets that fire AirSoft shells, and can go disco with a "super spin" move to bewilder and confuse opponents. On top of the obvious remote control goodness, you can outfit each one with an action cam so you can relive your friend's humiliating defeat again and again. Video and set deets after the jump.

The kits run about $100, but they come with a pair of tanks and remotes, eight each of varying CD case connectors (to make battle ramps) and a battlefield. Oh, and manual—like you need one. Just grab and kill, baby.

<![CDATA[Motorized Lego Monster Dino]]> The last time I played with Lego's my parents had to ask me what it was, since they couldn't even fathom a guess as to what I had created. If only I could have put together something as amazing as the motorized Lego Monster Dino. He walks, roars and definitely doesn't need an introduction.

And to make this guy even better, you can reconfigure him into a spider or even a crocodile. But you will need a butt-load of batteries (6AA, 3AAA), $89.95 and a bit of time to put together the 792 pieces.

But the real question is "how does it look when he's stomping around preparing his assault on the little Lego people?" Probably something like this

<![CDATA[World's Smallest R/C R2D2: Reviewed In the Palm of My Hand]]>
This R2D2 droid we wrote about a few days ago had a few surprises in store once I opened the box.

It's smaller than it seems in pictures. I'd say its about perfect scale to the old Star Wars action figures. I would have killed for one of these back in the day. Not sure if it'll fit in the X Wing from Hasbro, but I'm guessing a yes. The Japanese import has an IR lightsaber remote which controls the action.

When operating, the lightsaber can make R2D2 move forward and back but when it moves back, he spins. That's how the little guy turns. While on the move, his dome pivots a little bit side to side, and an a red LED goes off, as if he's looking around for trouble or a terminal interface to jack into. The whistling and purring R2 does while moving is emitted from the lightsaber.

Overall, its a fine piece of gear. At $30 bucks, it might make a good gift, cat toy, or a good friend to have when you're trying to get the Hyperdrive working.

<![CDATA[Mini Remote Controlled R2D2]]>
There are a lot of R2D2s out there are likely outside of the realm of reality/budget for most of us. R2 projectors, garbage cans, and mailboxes. Thinkgeek's outdone themselves with this cheap, mini R/C R2D2, that spins as it reverses, drives forward, flashes his Red LED, and and whistles accordingly. The remote control is in the shape of a lightsaber, too. $30, which is a fraction of what your unopened action figures are worth.

Seriously, keep making these. I can't get enough of em.

<![CDATA[Remote Controlled Ship...Pirate Ship]]> This remote controlled Pirate Ship isn't branded Pirates of the Caribbean. But it should be. Come on, it wouldn't take much. It already has a Jolly Roger flag. Just stick a G.I.Joe action figure painted up like Keith Richards at the helm. And you could even make Ken and Barbie walk the retractable plant, right into the jaws of a remote controlled shark. Arrrgh!

The ship's remote takes 8 AA batteries, has a range of 500 feet, and the boat's rechargable batteries will last 6 hours since they merely adjust the ship's rudder, and the mainsail. The boat's 12 cannons don't function, unfortunately.

<![CDATA[Remote Controlled Gundam Robot Walks Better Than Stephen Hawking]]> GUNDAM!! Who hasn't watched a Gundam cartoon and wished they were 13 years old and piloting one of these huge mechs? Here's the next, next, next, next best thing to that. The remote controlled Gunwalker robot lets you walk the guy in "true two leg walking action" by using the "Magna Traction System".

How does this space-age technology work? Electro-magnets in the soles "communicates timing to the system so one foot remains planted on the combat field". In regular-speak, that means this guy shouldn't fall down when you're walking him around your dining room table. Plus, he comes with a gun, a bigger gun, a knife, a little man to step on, and a bright red cyclopean eye.

<![CDATA[USB Powered Virtual R/C Car]]>

No matter how long I sit here, pondering this gadget, I still don't know whether it is cool or completely useless. It is really pretty simple. It is just a basic R/C car controller complete with the trigger and turn-y wheel. Plug it into a USB port, install the game and have a good 'ole semi-R/C time. I dunno, there is something about taking away the reality of R/C cars that would make it less fun. But then again this is probably cheaper than some of those R/C cars out today and allows your to wreck it over and over without busting out the super glue.

That's it, I'm sold on it. It has all the fun of R/C cars without the hassle of having to actually go outside or dealing with broken cars.
