I bet what they're not saying is that they've got big plans for some OLED roll-to-roll printing, which -- once they have kinks worked out like ink solvent systems, ink drying times, and printing resolution -- should DRASTICALLY reduce OLED display manufacturing costs.
GE has already got a working prototype (linked below). While it may be lousy and expensive, the technology is advancing quickly, and I think LG is banking on this stuff, to make a bold statement like "OLEDs will be cheaper than LCDs in the future".
2016? umm screw OLED! If I'm not crusing around town on my hoverboard, with my auto-tie-Nike's and my self drying jacket by 2016 I'm done...I'm just going to give up... #lgoledroadmap
@TonyWonder: I'm hoping to be cruising around in my spinner methodically hunting replicants while drinking myself to death. Either that or enjoying the afterlife since we all know the world is ending in 2012. #lgoledroadmap
I don't understand the rationale behind releasing this data. All this will do is make people hold off on getting a new TV until OLED is cheaper which won't help to encourage manufacturing improvement if people aren't buying. #lgoledroadmap
@aek8: It's not like OLED is suddenly going to drop in price 75% on the first of January, 2016. It'll be a gradual process, and as the TVs get cheaper, people will start to get them. The continued and inevitable reduction in cost of LCDs never stopped people investing in them either. #lgoledroadmap
@chasper14: Nobody's forcing you to upgrade just because a new technology exists. Only a total idiot would run out and buy an OLED at ten times the cost of a picture-quality-equivalent plasma. You can wait until it's at a price parity, in 6 years (not months). #lgoledroadmap
@Sockatume: That is very true and that is why I am rocking a 32 inch tube television. I might be the only one here who was worried about the conversion to digital television. LOL #lgoledroadmap

Just when LCD's were becoming more affordable, BAM! here comes LED Tv's.
Tv's are becoming like PC's, obsolute in 6 months. #lgoledroadmap
