    @zanzan42: Actually, the knees of a flamingo are actually much closer to its' body than ours are (just like every other bird, and most four-legged animals). The "knee" you're referring to is actually a bird's equivalent to an ankle. It's a little hard to see, but if you look closely you'll see it:
