I've always wondered - since I'm not rolling in billionaire trust fund money and don't have an ultra-successful startup - are Rolls Royces really much better than a top-of-the-line S-Class or comparable car? They are much more exclusive, but is there a tangible difference in comfort, ride quality, performance, etc.?
@Hello Mister Walrus: I couldn't imagine it would, but none of those give off quite that same roving art-deco-esque pinstripe-suited supervillain look.
@Hello Mister Walrus: It's not really about being better in the end. Amongst the RR customers, it's difficult to impress anyone with the latest $50'000 car, you know, everyone of their friends can afford it, there's no bragging value to it; it's like bragging about having an iPhone.
You have to multiply the value by at least 10 before anyone in these communities would even notice you have a new car.
@phoxdk: That's the purpose of the question: do you think that the car is better or is it just a $500mm penis enhancement? It seems like your opinion is the latter.
You know, Jeeves, this electric Rolls is very nice, but it feels so....hollow. I just can't get over the fact that it's not leaving an exhaust trail......there's no...heart. No soul.
@franco1975: Looks like your joke has been made obsolete by a new and improved joke a mere 3 hours and 34 minutes later. Perhaps you could upgrade for a small fee?
I'm surprised that it took this long for luxury cars to have the latest electronics standard. I know the older consumers wouldn't know what half of it is, but if you pay $100K + for a car, the least they could include is HD radio.
@(Starman) Starman: We have that in Los Angeles on the regular airwaves. Of course, what they pump out is Classical Top 40 most of the time. Hundreds of years of classical music to choose from and we get the same old warhorses all the time. My husband used to work there and he still listens to them, but I got bored with them years ago.
@subsider34: Los Angeles is pretty much an HD radio wasteland. There are a few interesting stations but most of them are just a waste of air space. Not to mention that we get terrible HD reception at our house because Mt. Wilson, where most of the transmitters are, is blocked from us by other mountains. We've had an HD radio since not long after it got started (husband works in broadcast engineering) and so far I haven't been impressed enough with any of the offerings to bother to find out what's on.
@infmom: Um... about every radio station here broadcasts in HD. In fact I don't think I know one that doesn't. Most AM stations not only broadcast in HD, but have a sister station in FM that broadcasts the AM station on one of their HD sub-channels.
