Contacts With Coverflow Concept Kind Of Cool

Coverflow isn't my favorite feature of OS X, but I have to admit it is neat, but that's about it. There are more efficient ways to organize pretty much any data you can think of, but this idea of applying the technology to your iPhone's Contacts list intrigues me. Nothing fancy here, it would likely be a piece of cake for Apple to throw together, and I'm a little mystified as to why it hasn't yet. It wouldn't be the first time photo browsing for contacts has been used, but it would be the coolest. And yes, I really have Kevin Rose's contact info on my iPhone, and no, he doesn't know about it. Worst Valentine's Gift Ever

We know that, as geeks, we're all tempted to take Valentine's Day to the "next level." Just so you know, this fiber optic rose is not that level.

Whether it's some sort of glowing undergarment or just a good old fashioned "I put no thought into your personality or the nature of our relationship" red/pink Nano, the word of the day is "restraint." Gizmodo's unsolicited advice: go classic on Valentine's Day. And no, you don't actually need to put thought into it, just a bit of money and an equal amount of taste.

And as with any holiday gift, avoid the words "fiber optic" like the plague.

Crapgadget Column Actually Full of Cool Stuff

Engadget's got a new column called Crapgadget meant to take the piss out of goofy electronics, but I think the examples they've picked are gadget-weirdness at its finest and deserve some defense. There's something inherently entertaining about a USB Microphone disguised as a rose, a rechargeable speaker cube the size of a golf ball; they're original, test new boundaries in gadget usage, and they're the epitome of the softer side of usually sterile technology. Plus, like a building block, they take creativity to use. That Rose would be a great gag in a singing video podcast, and that speaker could end up dangling from an iPod Shuffle as a little boombox.
