    I posted a comment about this ship earlier on, an extraordinarily large and impressive comment that cost me something like 1.5 billion dollars to create, and somehow it seems to have been obliterated into digital flotsam and sunk into an ocean of eternal nothingness. #oasisoftheseas

    At least it appears as if they've finally implemented a fully-separating saucer in the upper rear, so that if something happens to the ship, essential crew can escape and continue with their mission. #oasisoftheseas

    "oh man, the cruise was great. We were gone for 10 days and had a blast. The room was sweet, the activities kept us busy.

    I would have loved to have seen the ocean, but we ran out of time. Maybe next year.."

    This explains all the renovations they've been doing at the cruise ship docks down in Port of Miami. This thing is 100 feet longer and almost twice as heavy as a Ford Class aircraft carrier. Jesus. #oasisoftheseas

    @jayhawk11: It's actually not heavier than a carrier. The quoted "220,000 tons" is in gross registered tonnage (GRT) which is, confusingly, a measure of a ship's internal volume, where a "ton" is equal to 100 cubic feet. Its displacement--which *is* a measure of weight--is about 100,000 tons, or about the same as a carrier. GRT is an outdated measure and is used simply for marketing purposes. Still, it's an impressively huge ship (and probably does need some Phalanx on it). #oasisoftheseas

    It also has to get under a low brigde (Great Belt) by lowering telescopic chimney and driving full speed. There's safe tolerance of couple feet.

    All of Royal Caribbean's ships have 'of the Seas' as part of their name. After a while I imagine choices become limited when trying to think up new names. Allure of the Seas is the sister ship of the Oasis under construction now. It should be completed early next year. #oasisoftheseas
