Looks like the Instinct S30 successor (aka Instinct S50 and Dash M850) will be exclusive to Best Buy at the shops, and have a 5Mp camera with video capture, HD-TV-out, Wi-Fi and visual voice mail.

Though it doesn't go into specifics, the Best Buy listing says "prices effective Sunday August 23rd - Saturday September 26th"—so it's clearly not that far off. That syncs up with a recent leak suggesting Sprint could launch the phone on September 3. [Best Buy via Boy Genius Report]

<![CDATA[Nikon S50c is a Slick Point and Shoot with WiFi]]> Nikon follows up its S7c and S9 with the S50c and the S50. Like its predecessors, the 7mp, 3x zoom, optical stabilized cameras are slim, utilizing a periscope styled lens like those premiered in Minolta Dimage cams a long time ago. The lens in the S7c received some scores for being soft focused. These might be the same, but its too early to judge.

What's cool about the WiFi enabled S50c (in silver, only) is that on top of being able to email shots, Nikon is providing 2GB of server space for each cam sold, so you can share as soon as you get to an AP.

The cameras also have impressive ISO ratings of 1600, for low light shooting, 3-inch LCDs supposedly bright enough to view in the bright of day, face tracking, and AV slideshows.

Sounds good, but with all of these periscope lenses, we'll have to see how the quality is around the edges. Some blogs are also complaining about the rated shots per charge (130), which seem low. The S50 is available in black, without WiFi.

<![CDATA[S50 Sirius-ly Crippled by the RIAA]]> siriuslycrippled.jpgThe portable sat-radio scene is in an uproar today over several unexpected "features" of the Sirius S50 portable audio player. It turns out that only shows without music can be saved to the device via the Scheduled Recording. You are only allowed to record ONE SONG at a time, and when the song is over the recording automatically stops. The number of shows you can schedule is limited to 20, and there is a max time of 2 hours for each recording session. Why weren't these so-called features acknowledged when the S50 was first announced? It's not clear, but Sirius posted an update to the user manual just this weekend. Orbitcast speculates that this is related to the RIAA's "stranglehold on the 2006 License Renewals" and further wonders how this will affect the Dell DJ Satellite and Samsung neXus (which has already been delayed).

<![CDATA[Sirius Goes Into Orbitcast]]> orbitcast.jpgSirius unveiled its first wearable portable radio today, the S50. It schedule records up to 50 hours of programming, and supports MP3/WMA libraries through a PC dock. Full color display and voice-assisted channel navigation (wha?!?) are included in the 1.9-inch by 3.9-inch black on silver case. Available in October for $359.99.

Update: Reader Marty Z says: From what it sounds like, the Sirius S50 is not capable of obtaining a satellite signal WITHOUT its docking station... 'wearable radio' is a bit of a stretch — maybe 'wearable mp3 player.'
