Great article, but it seems to blur the line between media and format. "Magnetic tape", for instance, is a media, while MP3 is a format. You could technically put MP3 data on magnetic tape - it would just be horribly inefficient.
don't we also have a broadcast sent into outter space? i know it's not a recording per se, but it seems pretty permanet as it is gonna travel forever. when did we start doing that?
