If you're watching 24fps content (like a movie), each frame plays 10 times on a 240Hz display.

Occasionally I read sentences like that and realize that there is a reason I am not an editor at Gizmodo: I am not nearly geeky enough. If I were to pretend to know something (which I do not), I might be inclined to ask what the back-light on this sucker is based on - whether it is four separate lights at the sides, a single light, or using the multi-colored back-light system? But, I will not ask this because I am not smart enough to know what I am asking - even after reading a piece about this just yesterday.

To sum up: My brain is mush.

I just scored the larger version (55B8000) of this at Fry's. Samsung is currently subsidizing them by almost $700, so the 55" is just $3300, plus they have a rebate to get the wireless lan adapter for free (not an upfront purchase, they just send you one).

To notfred -- it interpolates the frames, making motion like panning smoother. You do notice.

I understand why 120Hz is great (24 goes into it evenly), but what does 240Hz buy you? Do I care if I see the same frame 5 or 10 times? It's still the same elapsed time, 1/24th of a second...

@notfred: I have the same question. Not trying to be snarky - I just don't know if doubling the number of times a frame plays reduces flicker to some degree by reducing the amount of persistence needed (is persistence even a concern with LCDs?)

@AlteredBeast: Correct. PC's can have a limitless amount of frames (provided you have the graphics cards), so if you hooked your PC to this you could have 240 frames per second displaying which would result in one ungodly smooth image.
