[Gadgets]]]> k5fergie.jpgThere used to be a time when you'd see Apple's iPod in practically every new music video. Everyone from Snoop Dogg to 50 Cent could be seen flashing their shiny white player, much in the same manner that Paris Hilton whored herself out to the Sidekick. But lately it seems the iPod has been getting the shaft from Hollywood who has been caught holding hands with other players. Take for instance Fergie's "Fergalicious" video. As painful as it is to watch (seriously, don't Google it), she has the brains (or maybe her agent does) to carry a Samsung YP-K5. Then there's...

h10_24.jpg 24. In an old episode, we see an iRiver H10 being used to detonate a bomb. Even 007 settled for a Sony Ericsson in place of an iPod in last year's Casino Royale. As much as I like my iPod, I find it refreshing that Hollywood is welcoming other players into the foray—players that deserve the attention (ok, so the H10 is old, but still, it was a good player back in the day). Now how long before we see a Zune in a music video and which video will that be?

<![CDATA[Samsung YP-K3: The K5's Little Brother, Sans Speaker [Portable Media]]]> samsungk31.jpgThe Samsung YP-K3, scheduled to make its debut at CES in January, is the slimmed down successor to the YP-K5. Supposedly it's Samsung's "slimmest and sleekest," which, given the picture, would be hard to argue against. The biggest difference between the new K3 and the K5 is that that K3 is believed to be lacking the built-in speaker that made the K5 unique amongst other DAPs. The screen is a little larger, too, this time coming in at 1.8 inches versus the K5's 1.7 inches. Whether or not it's any better at viewing pictures is anyone's guess. There's a higher-res shot after the jump.

Other than those most basic facts, nothing else has been officially announced by Samsung. All it needs to do is correct a few of the complaints we had about the K5, which was a little clunky and some of its extras like picture viewing and FM radio weren't as well-done as they could've been, and the K3 could end up being a fine DAP indeed.
