If there is anything I have learned in my life from TV, it's that you don't need a weighted hat to motivate/dissuade uppity first mates/people, it just needs some anchors on it.

It was good enough for the Skipper, and it's good enough for me.

I know it's hip to mock an' all, but his comments concerning using the cap defensively are absolutely correct.

I would like to see the hat in other (less militaristic and hence perhaps a bit less obvious) colors, however.

Completely illegal to carry one here in Oregon.

I can walk around armed to the teeth, with handguns on my belt and assault rifles on my back.

    But blackjacks are a no-no.

@Morgan Breden: You have to remember Oregon's history. Guns weren't used to knock unsuspecting bar patrons unconscious so that they could be sold, essentially as slaves, to shady cross pacific boat captains... blackjacks were.

Hmm Blackjacks are illegal to carry here in NYC I wonder if this has to follow the same guidelines other "weapons" do.

@Ricorich196: I meant to add in bricks obviously aren't illegal but it's assanine that sand bags are. I mean I could fill up a pill case full of pennies and beat the fack out of someone, does that make pillow cases or pennies or a combination of the two illegal?

    That's the key.

Some of those items may be otherwise legal, just not with the intent to use unlawfully against another.

I'd guess that you can use your sandbag in self-defense as long as "you were in fear of your life, and that of your family". Again, providing that it's not explicitly illegal to otherwise carry, as some of those items are.
