Samsung SC-MX20 Is YouTube, PMP Friendly With H.264 Shooting

Samsung's SC-MX20 follows up the MX10 with some fairly useful features such as h.264 video mode for better YouTube, iPod, iPhone and PMP compatibility, as well as a max 720x480 resolution for DVD-quality video. It stores up to 16 hours on one 32GB SDHC card, has three hours of battery life (best-in-class they claim?), 34x optical zoom, image stabilization and "3D noise reduction." Out in August for $280 in black, red and white. Not too bad a price if you're looking to go a little higher than the entry-level Flip cams. Not having to re-encode everything you shoot is real nice too. [Samsung via Electronista]

Pioneer Elite SC-07 and SC-05 Flagship Receivers (Plus the VSX-03TXH and VSX-01TXH)

Pioneer's got new Elite 7.1 receivers, the high end SC-07 and SC-05, and the lesser VSX-03TXH and VSX-01TXH. The SC-07 has a Burr Brown Sampling Rate Converter (SRC) to upscale audio to 192 kHz 24-bit res, and dual HDMI outputs for multiroom output. The SC-07 and SC-05 also work with Pioneer's new Blu-ray player to activate the "Precision Quartz Locking System (PQLS) that synchronizes data between the Blu-ray Disc player and the receiver, providing listeners with the ultimate precision in CD playback." I kid you not, Pioneer is working on making CDs the yesterday technology of tomorrow! All four receivers do new lossless formats ("DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution, Dolby® TrueHD and Dolby® Digital Plus" ) and room tuning.

First Listen: Panasonic SC-BT100 Blu-ray Home Theater in a Box Is Boomy, Not Hissy

Panasonic's SC-BT100 Blu-ray home-theater in a box made a sly appearance back at CES, but today we got up all in its face. The Blu-ray soul is basically Panny's BD-30 player (with the added mojo of the BD-50's Chroma processor). Rear speakers are wireless and produce virtual 7.1 sound, though you can add on two more for true 7.1. Supposedly the subwoofer is magically designed to reduce hissing with quiet rumblings—we certainly didn't notice any in the demo, but we heard smooth, cheesy jazz and the 18-wheeler/F-18 scene from Justin Long's fake Die Hard movie, so it was hard to gauge its effectiveness on the front. The sound certainly wasn't bad though—it'll go for $999 in late spring. Closeups and fact sheet below. More »

Samsung SC-HMX20C HD Camcorder Shoots 1080p Onto Flash Memory

The skinny: Samsung has figured out how to record 1080p onto flash memory with this SC-HMX20C camcorder. The 10.9-ounce shooter has 8GB of internal flash memory, and can output its sweet 30 frame-per-second video via USB or HDMI. And hey, it has a with its 2.7-inch touchscreen. The catch: We have no idea about pricing, and you'll have to wait until May to get your hands on one. Also, those touchscreens get pretty greasy and funky with all those fingers all over it. Take the jump for a bonus pic and the press release:

Pioneer Elite SC-09TX Amp and Receiver Kicks Audio Arse

Pioneer rolled out its Elite SC-09TX Direct Energy amp and AV receiver combination, a mutha of an AV system if we've ever seen one. Set to ship in January, the setup consists of a 10-channel amplifier stacked on top of a precision pre-amp receiver unit, giving you 200 watts x 10 of sweet, clean power. And man, did this sucker sound great. Pioneer hooked it up to some of its speakers designed by a former KEF engineer, and knocked our socks off. Since we can't perfectly convey that sonic experience to you here, settle for a bit of amplifier porn in the gallery on the next page. More »

Vulcan FlipStart E-1001S: Vaporware, Four Years Later

Many of you whippersnappers won't even know what we're talking about when we mention the FlipStart, a piece of vaporware from the distant past (this nonsense started all the way back in 2003) when ultra-mobile PCs (UMPC) were just a glimmer in the eyes of their creators. Now a group of pictures have emerged of the perennial upstart, and they're calling it the FlipStart E-1001S. More »

Toshiba Projector Includes Document Camera

This is the latest projector from Toshiba that includes one hell of an interesting feature. That black handle looking thing on the side is actually a document camera that attaches directly to the projector. So in addition to the regular projector duties, it can also display papers, transparencies, photos, objects and other things. The projector itself is pretty average with 2,000 lumens brightness, 2,000:1 contrast ratio and a native resolution of 800x600, but that document camera is pretty snazzy. The whole unit weighs in at only 8.6 pounds. This projector, the TDP-SC35U DLP is available for $900. More »

Samsung SC-DC164 10,000 Word Review Spoiler: it's teh suck

Here's a review of the low rent Samsung SC-DC164 camcorder. It's the base model that records to little DVD discs. Ordinarily, that would be the end of the story. But David Kender of Camcorder Info knows his stuff. He gives this camera the gadget equivalent of an invasive body cavity search. The resulting review is about as long as anything I've ever read on the internet, but he doesn't mince words. More »

Samsung's 6-in-1 Digital Cameras

Yeah, so Samsung has the biggest LCD ever. Woop woop. I actually like their smaller side at this year's CES. Especially the SC-MS25 and the SC-MS20 6-in-1 digital still cameras. Both of these babies come with MPEG-4 video and voice recording, music playback, data storage, and web cam capability, as well as taking pretty damn good digital still pics. And both are 6 megapixel models with a 3X optical zoom lens and 3" LCD. The MS25 has 512MB of built-in memory while the MS20 only has 64MB, but both look pretty too, which seems to be a trend here. Oh, and they also come with a SD/MMC slot for increased storage capacity. Look for the MS25 in May for $500 and the MS10 in February for $400.
