Best part? Looks like she'll be available this summer.

As a refresher, Scarlet brings some rather nice features:

* Increased REDCODE data rates
* New FLUT Color, Gamma and Sensitivity Science. Now same as EPIC.
* More extensive modular system integration.
* Interchangeable Lens mounts including focus and iris control of electronic RED, Canon and Nikon lenses, along with Zoom data (Scarlet 2/3" Interchangeable)
* "Touch Focus Tracking" with electronic lens mounts and RED touchscreen LCD's (Scarlet 2/3" Interchangeable and 8x Fixed)
* Two independent microphone level channels, balanced input circuits, 48V Phantom Power, digitized at 24-bit 48KHz.
* GigaBit Ethernet port
* Scaled 1080P at 60fps

Now onto the eye candy we both know you came here for. Meet Scarlet and her band of lenses and accessories:

Assuming everything goes according to schedule, we'll be seeing this line of cameras in the summer of 2010, while some of the lenses will be out as early as December. Yeah, I won't be getting them either, but I'll keep drooling anyway. [RedUser]

<![CDATA[RED Scarlet Test Footage Hits the 'Nets Looking Like a Gift From the Gods]]> I love that RED's upcoming Scarlet camera will cost around $2500 and can produce beautiful footage like this. Paired with a 100mm RED PRIME PRO lens here, the 2/3" Scarlet captures footage at 3K resolution.

Jarred Land from RED says this is the first footage from the 2/3" Scarlet prototypes and that the frame above was pulled straight from the video. He also says this "heavily compressed" and "quick and dirty." We should all aspire to assemble things as quickly and dirtily as this. [RED Forums]

1. Keep your RED ONE and shoot great images. Get continual free firmware upgrades.

2. Keep your RED ONE and upgrade your sensor to Mysterium-X for $4,500.

3. Trade your RED ONE in, and receive $17,500 credit, towards the purchase of an EPIC-X S35 Private Reserve package, which is only available to RED ONE customers.

4. Trade your RED ONE in, and receive $17,500 credit, towards the purchase of an EPIC FF35 Pro Cinema "Brain".

5. Trade your RED ONE in, and receive $17,500 credit, towards the purchase of an EPIC 645 Pro "Brain".

Here is the price list:

Until we get our own, I will be playing with the one on loan at the Gizmodo Gallery. Come and check it out too. [Red User]

<![CDATA[RED Unloads Modular Cameras, a DSLR, 3D and 28k]]> Rumors of a RED DSLR had been confirmed a long time ago, but what of the Scarlet and EPIC übercamcorders? On the REDUser forums, RED CEO Jim Jannard has explained it all: Scarlet and EPIC are the DSLR — all cameras are "part of the same DSMC system", so each and every camera will be part of a modular, build-your-own, still and video product line based on the Scarlet and EPIC 'Brains'. To do this, RED has furnished an insanely diverse new collection of components, with sensors ranging from the $2500 3k Scarlet to the $55,000, 28k EPIC 617 Mysterium Monstro.

The core of the new line is made up of the new 'Mysterium' brains, pictured in the gallery above and detailed in the gallery below. These boxy sensors can be built up into 5D-esque DSLRs, compact prosumer camcoders, full-fledged professional video cameras or even a 3D unit with a new line of lenses, flash storage, frames, mounts and other add-ons, outlined with the new sensors below. In addition to their own lenses, the new cameras mercifully support gear built for Nikon and Canon standards with mount adapters, so you don't have to re-buy all of your optics. In spring, when the first of the new units are intended to ship, RED One users won't be left out in the cold — they'll get purchase credit towards new cameras, or if they'd just like to throw one of the new sensors into their existing rig, credit towards that. I guess this is what Jannard meant when he said RED had a 'new vision'.

<![CDATA[Red's CEO Confirms "Incredible" Product Re-Jig Announcement, November 13]]> We already knew Red was going to totally revise its Epic and Scarlet cameras, and there was a rumor about a Red DLSR too: but Jim Jannard—Red's CEO—has just popped up on the RedUser forums and confirmed that there's going to be an announcement about the new Epics and Scarlets on November 13th. And if that news alone isn't interesting enough, get what Jim has to say about it:

I want to say that no one has any idea how incredible this announcement will be. Call this hype... please. I am quite sure that the announcement will be called a "scam". Should be a lot of fun to hear the reactions. I can't wait.

Doesn't that sound like something you definitely want to hear about? It's a pretty bold move making such a statement in so public a forum, and that's got our collective camera-geek brains ticking over. Could it be the fabled 4k video capture, a response to Canon and Nikon's recent video DSLR maneuver? We can't tell, of course...but at least we've not got long to wait to find out. [RedUser Thanks Brad!]

The phone's only major difference is the color Scarlet, and unlike the similarly-named actress, can be yours for just $199 with two-year contract. [T-Mobile]

<![CDATA[Hollywood "Stars" Punk'd Into Going to Scarlet TV Premiere]]> We weren't the only ones fooled by LG's Scarlet TV that masqueraded as a TV series. LG managed to convince Hollywood's red carpet-loving "starlets" to come out as well, thinking that it was for the premiere of some show made by a Smallville and Sopranos director. We hope attendees got to take home one of these HDTVs, because we'd be pissed if we had to put on pants for nothing. [MavrixOnline via Shiny Shiny]

<![CDATA[Scarlet Not a Karate-Kicking Hottie, But a Fat TV from LG]]> Scarlet, that doe-eyed brunette that we all "thought" was the protagonist of a new TV series is actually nothing more than the face of a viral campaign for a new line of TVs from LG. The LCD HD TVs, which range from 32 to 52 inches, have a 50,000:1 contrast ratio, super-fast response time of 4 milliseconds, HDMI 1.3, and 1080p resolution—apart from the smallest model. See what it looks like below.

"I wanna put her in every home on the planet," says one of the characters in the "trailer." Yeah yeah yeah, now go back to peeling potatoes or whatever you do when you're not on set. Prices in Korea range from around $1,500 to $5,300, but there's no word on US prices—or, for that matter, when they're coming over here. [Engadget HD and Associated Press and Scarlet]

<![CDATA[ ADVERTISEMENT: We still don't see the big...]]> ADVERTISEMENT: We still don't see the big picture surrounding Smallville director David Nutter's latest series "Scarlet," but industry insiders are promising us that it will be the biggest thing to hit TV since, well...the TV. Check it out.

<![CDATA[Red Scarlet 3K HD Pocket Pro Camera Under $3000]]> Red's pocket-sized professional camera, Scarlet has made its promised debut at NAB, and it is the tiny hotness. It shoots in heady 3k resolution with Red's new 2/3-inch Mysterium X sensor, shooting from 1-120fps (180fps burst) and up to 100MB/sec REDCODE RAW HD, recording to dual Compact Flash cards. It's got Wi-Fi control (sweet), and all the necessary ports: HDMI, HD-SDI, Firewire 800 and USB2. The 4.8-inch LCD should be more than adequate on this compact HD shooter. Besides coming with an 8X T2.8 Red zoom lens, it's compatible with most Red One accessories. Price? We're hearing under $3000, set for early '09, no pre-orders. But the note that specs and delivery dates could change is a bit ominous, since the Red One saw some delays. [Red, Brochure]
