Verizon Gets Rhapsody Subscriptions, DRM-Free Downloads

Verizon customers with certain VCAST phones have some new options for buying music, thanks to Rhapsody. First off, the $15 per month, all-the-songs-you-can-guzzle subscription service is offered on LG's Decoy and Dare, Moto's W755 and Samsung's SCH-u550, Glyde, and Juke, and will be available for the Chocolate 3 when it's out. Also, $2 over-the-air download tracks now come with a DRM-free MP3 version that you can snag on your computer with VCAST/Rhapsody software. If you can hold your horses and wait till you're on a PC to download, DRM-free tracks are yours for a buck, which can be sideloaded onto the phone like usual. Press release after the jump. Verizon's CTIA Phone Lineup: Remakes and Sequels

CTIA comes but twice a year, and it gives the telecoms and phone makers a chance to show off their coolest stuff. Verizon Wireless apparently has its hands full with the whole open-network thing, because instead of unveiling something potentially sweet like the LG VX9700 or VX8560, its lineup of CTIA phones looks pretty ho-hum. Yes, there's a new BlackBerry Curve 8330 and a slimmer enV, but even those and the other handsets from HTC, Motorola and Samsung suffer from a re-heated leftover vibe: More »

Samsung's Thin 3-Megapixel SCH-u900 FlipShot Camera Phone Hits Verizon

Last time you saw the SCH-u900, it was fugly. Now, gussied up and ready for the holidays, the u900 makes its Verizon Wireless debut in red and black with a new nickname, the FlipShot. The 3.0-megapixel camphone replaces the now defunct a990 with a thinner body and a new rounded-edge look. It's got what you'd expect from a high-end feature phone: EV-DO, GPS with VZ Navigator, and Bluetooth—stereo audio, dial-up networking, serial port and object push for vCard, plus basic print and image profiles. The black version starts selling on Verizon's website today, while the seductive red model will only be available at Best Buy, beginning 11/26. Total cost for this baby will be $200, after you sign your life away for one-fifth of a decade, of course. [Verizon Wireless]

Verizon's F700 Variant Could Actually Be the Samsung SCH-U940

Last week we mentioned a rumor that a variant of the Samsung F700 could make its way on the Verizon network sometime in the near future. Today, another rumor from Phone Arena has determined that the variant is actually the Samsung SCH-U940, and it is set to make its official debut sometime in the next few months. Details are scarce but word on the street is that the U940 will feature a 440x240 pixel touch screen, a slide out QWERTY keyboard, and a 2 MP camera downgrade from the 3MP version found on the F700. Again, keep in mind that no official announcement has been made. [Phone Arena]

Samsung SGH-X830 Swivel Cellphone Coming to Verizon?

The Samsung SGH-X830 and SCH-U470 cellphones are Samsung's weird swivel phones with the weird dual column keys that we never thought would make it anywhere outside of Korea. But Phone Arena is saying that Verizon—a Korean cellphone manufacturer-friendly provider if we ever saw one—will be bringing the phone sometime in 2008. That's right, following up the LG Chocolate and LG Shine will be this Samsung whatever it's called (we're guessing Swizzle Stick). [Phone Arena via Crave]

Samsung U710 Swings Both Ways

It's not often you find a phone that goes both ways, yet that's exactly what the forthcoming SCH-U710 does. This kinky bidirectional clamshell flips open like a typical clamshell and also likes to be opened horizontally from the side. The phone sports a set of external music controls along with a microSD slot, Bluetooth, and EV-DO. The phone's menu is said to support visual themes (nice for a change) and there's also talk of a 3.2-megapixel cam. The QWERTY keypad looks a little too small for our giant paws and the phone's love handle (on the left) looks awkward for texting, but otherwise we're liking what we see. Click through to check it out for yourself. More »

Samsung Sneaking 3 New Phones On Us

Mobilescraper did a little poking around and found that Samsung has three new phone models on the burner, ready to boil over. The SCH-V920, SGH-Z230, and SCH-U520 phones don't have any info on Samsung's site related to their model numbers, but yet, there they are, staring us in the face. More »
