Lenovo's Ultra-Cheap Notebooks: IdeaPad G-Series
Yes, netbooks and ultra-cheap lappies are being pumped out by everybody, and frankly, boring. But a Lenovo-made cheapie that brings some of their standard features and serious build quality down to a netbook pricepoint would be a bargain-bin laptop worth looking at. Supposedly the first in their IdeaPad G-Series will be 14.1-incher running on Centrino 2. Hopefully the pricepoint is in line with (or better than) its smaller competition. [DigiTimes via I4U]

For its 7 series Euro launch in Moscow, BMW constructed the monstrosity you see here and filled it with 180,000 silver balls that slowly revealed their new oligarch cruiser. Funny they should pick the city with probably the highest ominous-luxury-sedan-with-90%-window-tint concentration per capita on the continent. I guess that explains the drama—everyone in the Moscow 7 series market probably finds a new $100k+ ride in their couch cushions every few days, so anything less than a massive hourglass in Red Square with a car inside wouldn't have warranted a glance. Ignore the BMW suits in the following video; let's watch those balls fall.

Blu-ray is actually optional. Inquirer: Every Nvidia Graphics Card With G84 or G86 Chipset Is Ready to Die
Those overheating Nvidia laptop graphics cards that are dying en masse? The Inquirer is reporting that "all the G84 and G86 parts are bad. Period. No exceptions," on mobile and desktop. Those chipsets are in pretty much every GeForce 8-series graphics card below the 8800s (here's a complete list of cards and chipsets). Notably, that means every MacBook Pro since the Santa Rosa update has the bad cards, which fail at a "higher-than-normal" rate. More »

Sub-$500 128GB Drive from OCZ May be the SSD You've Been Saving For
OCZ's new Core Series SSD's are designed to be large and affordable. So the new 2.5-inch SATA II flash drives are coming in 128GB, 64GB and 32GB sizes at $479, $259 and $169 respectively. They don't match up to the 200Mbps read speeds Samsung has promised—managing 135Mbs— but that price point is pretty low. And while they're too big to drop into the smallest laptops (MacBook Air owners will weep), they might be just the ticket for people looking to cheaply upgrade to SSD—OCZ claim ten times faster than their HDDs and half the power. M-Series Is Industry First Quad-Display GPU, Says Matrox
Matrox keeps updating its multi-display thingamajigs, this time with the first Quad-Head GPU in the industry, according to the company. The M-Series M9140 LP PCIe x16 can drive up to four 1920 x 1200 screens with 512MB of RAM. Sony Ericsson F305 Phone With Motion Gaming First Impressions (Verdict: Underwhelming)
The Sony Ericsson F305 gaming phone went official today, and the guys at Crave Asia fired off a few first impressions after spending some hands-on time with it. They claim that the screen on the F305 is way too small and the device itself is excessively slippery—which doesn't mesh well with the motion controls. All in all they felt that it had "a been-there-done that vibe to it," but the Wii-esque motion controls are a step in the right direction. Still, it seems that the F305 is a far cry from the PSP phone we have all been dreaming of. [Crave]

Nvidia GeForce GTX 200 Graphics Cards Makes Your Gaming Rig Officially Outdated
Nvidia's latest line of graphics cards gets official today: The GeForce GTX 260 and GTX 280 mark the debut of the next-gen 200 series, a completely overhauled and badass line of GPUs. The GTX 280 rocks 240 processing cores and 1GB of RAM, while the 260 comes with 192 cores and 896MB of memory, making them equally adept at generating eye-popping graphics or serious parallel computing and physics crunching. Nvidia demoed for me some of the stuff these puppies can do in SLI—and it's pretty incredible. Check out some of Nvidia's ass-beating benchmarks for yourself. The E66 and E71, two Nokia E-Series cellphones in last week's rumor mill, are now official. Up top is the E71, a slick QWERTY phone that's a lot less chunky than its predecessor, the E61. Nokia Prepping New E-Series Phones
Nokia is planning on delivering the long-awaited N96 and a group of new E-series models to the market sometime in the 3rd quarter of this year—with the E66 and E71 models coming as early as next week. I wondered if maybe the member wasn't referring to the Dealzmodo-tastic flat-panel price war that HD Guru Gary Merson predicted. Sure enough, when I cross checked Samsung's most recent MAP pricing on the 5 Series LCDs (a.k.a. 550) with their list prices on Best Buy's website, I could totally spot the $200 price drops that were discussed on AVS. But if the price war is really on, other prices will be dropping. I am only one man, while you, dear readers, are the Giz army—if you spot any other noteworthy MAP or MSRP price drops on TVs now or in the coming days, comment here, or send a note to our tips line. When we showed you those Sharp X-series ultra-thin LCD TVs recently, we mentioned how Sharp had achieved the slimming down: by putting most of the electronics in a separate box, connected by a single cable. Well, now there's news that Sharp has teamed up with AMIMON to do away with that cable and transmit the HDTV signal wirelessly to the display from the tuner box. The "WHDI" technology has a range of 100 feet, a latency of less than a millisecond and can transmit through multiple walls. So while the 37-, 42- and 46-inch TVs will now have an optional wireless video transmitter with AMIMON's tech inside, there's no info on the price yet. Read on for the full press release.
