Sounds absurd to me... how much time does it save when you're out on the trails and your battery dies? How much drag does it save compared to the amount that directly affects the rider?

...and have they made an auto shift mechanism that doesn't jump the sprocket and jam in the frame of the bike yet? Because all of mine do regardless of how they're fixed or tuned up...

I'd tell everyone to just go be men and get fixed gear bikes, but they seem to have become the sole domain of strange men with beards and tattoos and ironic tshirts.

Why should I spend that kind of money on a bike shifter when I have a perfectly good unused 18 year-old bike sitting in my closet?

@OMG! Ponies!: For a (crazy) moment there I missed the word "bike" in the second half of your sentence. I was deperately trying to reconcile you having an "unused" 18 year-old (girl, presumably) in your closet with the concept of bicycle ownership. Then it all fell into place as the word structure asserted its normality upon me.

    Then I lol'd.

@BeautifulAgony: I mis-read the same thing and thought, "It looks like he just found his next Mrs. Ex-Ponies..."

2 seconds? Isn't the Tour De France 2200 miles over 23 days? wow, when do we reach the point of diminishing returns?

@Nathan Cline: Yeah, 2 seconds off the Tour de France is nothing. There's no way to tell what the effect of the new components was.
