Forbes paraphrases him as saying "demand for the device in the U.S. is unusually high in contrast to either Europe or Asia," which is why you might not be able to get one this Christmas. Oh really?

It's because demand is so high here that Wiis only sit on shelves for about an hour before they're bought when people in Europe have been saying they can walk in to stores and buy a Wii at any time of day? It's not because you're allocating more inventory on your products to Europe and Japan because the weak US dollar is causing smaller revenues on units sold here? So when you say, "What I can commit myself to is that Nintendo is going to do its best to supply as many Wii hardware units as possible in order to meet demand there," we don't have reason to think that you're a liar and kind of a scumbag? Gotcha. [Forbes via Kotaku]

<![CDATA[Chip Shortages Force Nintendo to Delay Expanding Wiis]]> Digitimes is claiming that Nintendo is having a problem making good on its promise to ramp up Wii production, something that was set for June, thanks to a shortage of IC chips and PCBs. This means that the global Wii shortage will continue well into the second half of 2007, the holiday season and probably into 2008 as well. If you want a Wii for Xmas, you'd better pick one up if you see one. [Digitimes via Kotaku]

Update 2: Nintendo has this statement to make:

"Nintendo has no revisions to announce to its most recent shipment forecasts at this time."

So no shipment forecast changes, but it's not quite a denial that they're not having problems. Everything's still up in the air for now.

Update: We contacted Nintendo for a response, and we'll update when we hear back.

<![CDATA[Japanese Wii Supply Normalizing - US Soon Too?]]> Akiba blog is reporting that the Nintendo Wii is showing up in Japanese retailers in "semi-normal" numbers, meaning that the incredible demand may have finally faded enough to match the supply. If this holds true for the US, people may be able to get Wiis without stomping and punching each other in the face in stores. Probably not, though. [Akiba Blog via Kotaku]

<![CDATA[Nintendo Finally Ramping up Wii Production]]> If you didn't manage to grab a Wii at Best Buy this past weekend, here's some good news. Nintendo just announced that they're going to ramp up production of their consoles.

Despite rumors that they were holding back consoles either to increase demand or for the end of the fiscal year, we're still optimistic and think that Nintendo totally screwed the pooch and hasn't made enough consoles due to manufacturing problems.

<![CDATA[Analysts Say Console Shortage Isn't Letting Up, People Take to Swapping]]> wiipants.jpgSome analysts are predicting the console shortage currently taking over the country may not be letting up anytime soon. Current speculation is suggesting that the lack of available Nintendo Wii and PlaysStation 3 consoles may last until March. It seems the PS3 is a little bit easier to acquire as folks are hitting up the Craigslist trying to swap their PS3s for the more desireable Wii consoles. People are even taking pretty big losses by not wanting any compensation in addition to the Wii for PS3 trade—just a straight up trade.

Regardless of your method of getting a next-gen console—whether it be begging, camping, selling yourself, or stuffing them down your pants—we wish you luck, you will need it for the next few months.

<![CDATA[Xbox 360 Shortage is Over?]]> xbox360other.jpgPeter Moore, head of all thing Xboxen, has made a bold statement in his DICE session.
Within the next four to six weeks, anybody will be able to walk into a store and buy an Xbox 360.

Hopefully by store he means eBay where anybody can buy my Xbox 360 price gouged 300%. Along with his Xbox 360 shortage statement he also shared some statistics about Xbox Live. About 54% of all Xbox 360 owners have Xbox Live which is a significant increase compared to the 10% of original Xbox owners that use the Live service.

<![CDATA[No Xbox 360 for You]]>

What's the point of bringing the Xbox 360 out early if nobody can get their hands on it? Not much, if you ask me. And many gaming geeks may feel the same way once they realize that the 360 may not be available again until the spring. Things don't look good for Big Bill on this front. The buzz was that Microsoft was to have shipped as many as 3 million boxes by the end of next month, but instead, we've been told that there were only 1 million shipped by the end of last year.

"We are making them as fast as we possibly can, and we do expect over the next three to four months that availability will get a lot better," Microsoft chairman Bill Gates said. "The challenge we had - and we're not the first to have this - is the demand far exceeded supply."
Yeah, we dig, but don't be such a TEASE. If this keeps up, many folks are just going to wait for the PS3 with Blu-ray and forget about the 360. So let's get the party started, ok Microsoft?

<![CDATA[Anyone Find a 4GB nano??]]>

Go to any retail store and it's clear that there's a 4 gig nano shortage while there's more than enough 2 gigs to go around. I've been searching locally and have been told by a Circuit City employee that there are manufacturing problems with the 4 gig and a Best Buy employee said that their order for the 4 gigs has been put on hold. Granted, they're far from a reliable source of information, but there definitely haven't been any 4 gigs showing up in stores for a couple weeks now. Any word from Apple on the subject?

Thanks Kyle. So readers, what do you think? I know it's the holidays and all, but has anyone been able to find a 4-gig nano? Let us know.
