Interestingly, the Facebook app is free while the Twitter app is $2 per month.

This comes as a catch-up to the Sidekick 2009, which comes pre-packaged with free Facebook and Twitter apps. Why the Twitter app needs a monthly fee is a mystery to me, but maybe it's really spectacular. [Thanks, Matt!]

<![CDATA[Sidekick Slide Scarlet Available Now For $199]]> The rumored Sidekick Slide Scarlet (read: red edition) is available now from T-Mobile. It's just about the same as the regular Sidekick Slide, with myFaves support, QVGA display, microSD slot, 1.3-megapixel camera and all the Sidekick features that kids love. The phone's only major difference is the color Scarlet, and unlike the similarly-named actress, can be yours for just $199 with two-year contract. [T-Mobile]

<![CDATA[Fire Red Sidekick Slide Coming May, Juneish]]> We know how much you kids love the Sidekicks, which is why you'll be excited at getting a completely new color: fire red. Boy Genius has the image above, plus gives the estimated release date on T-Mobile at either late May or early June. It's no Sidekick 4, but it'll do for now. We're still wondering how much they had to pay Michelle Yeoh to pose for their promo shots. [Boy Genius]

<![CDATA[Sidekick Slide Back on T-Mobile, Hopefully Without Battery Contact Problem]]> The Sidekick Slide was pulled off the T-Mo product line last month due to faulty battery contacts, which forced the phone to power off by itself when opened one too many times. The DIY fix was to stick some business cards or loose paper into the battery compartment to make sure the contacts never de-contact, but we're sure Motorola has some fancier solutions (premium business cards, perhaps). In any case, you can buy one again for $199 after discounts and rebates. We still wonder how they got Michelle Yeoh to pose for that product shot. [T-Mobile via Electronista]

<![CDATA[Motorola Fixing Sidekick Slide, Hope to Have it in Stores Next Week (UPDATED, With Official T-Mobile Statement)]]> As suspected, Motorola has identified an issue with the battery contacts as the source of the problem on the Sidekick Slide and are currently testing an updated model. T-Mobile and Motorola hope to have the Slide back in stores next week.

UPDATED T-Mobile USA Statement on Sidekick Slide Motorola has determined that the intermittent power cycling on some T-Mobile Sidekick Slide devices was caused by a minor issue relating to the battery contacts. Motorola also has identified and tested a solution which it will implement for existing devices, and incorporate into newly manufactured ones. T-Mobile expects to begin offering the Sidekick Slide again beginning next week. If a customer has a Sidekick Slide that is experiencing the intermittent power cycle issue, they may contact T-Mobile Customer Care or go to a T-Mobile retail store for assistance and to discuss available options.

<![CDATA[Sidekick Slide Design Flaw Causes Resets?]]> Boy Genius reports that Sidekick Slide users are getting sudden restarts after sliding the screen up and down a few times. The cause? Apparently a build flaw that has too big of a gap between the contacts for the battery and the connector on the phone. Telstra, an Australian company, seems to be having similar problems on their version of the Motorola device called the Hiptop Slide. A temporary solution is to shove a piece of paper—maybe a business card—between the wall and the battery. This happening to any of you? [Boy Genius]

<![CDATA[Evolution of the Sidekick Flip From the 3, iD, LX to the Slide]]> As part of the Slide review process, Benny G and I just made this super-quick video of all four recent models: Sidekick 3, Sidekick iD, Sidekick LX and Sidekick Slide. What will you notice? Changes in flip action, changes in the flip sound effects, and remarkable difference in screen brightness and clarity. But one question, Motorola: if you're so cool building the Sidekick Slide, how come you didn't put a slide-open sound effect? I'll be sure to follow up on that mystery. [T-Mobile Sidekick]

<![CDATA[Sidekick Slide Slides Out of the Box]]> While there isn't a lot to say that we haven't already said, it's nice to finally get the thing in the box and have a look. As Blam mentioned last week, it's sturdy and slim, with a nice bright screen—though not the biggest. It's definitely the most comfortable Sidekick for the pants... pocket. (I won't comment on the other pants attributes, as I do not have a degree in pantsology like Chen.) The interface is all too familiar, but the smaller form factor makes me happy. From what we can tell, the $199 phone is still slated to arrive at T-Mobile locations on November 7. Now, enjoy the gallery and stay tuned for one serious Sizemodo. [T-Mobile]

<![CDATA[Hands All Over the Sidekick Slide (Verdict: Best Build Quality Ever)]]> The Sidekick Slide is the midrange Sidekick, at $199, and it has a smaller screen than the Sidekick "Luxury" LX. I couldn't tell so from the stuffy stock photos, but having held it and played with it, I do believe it has the best build quality of any sidekick. Motorola hardware plus Danger OS? Yes, please. It's also smaller. The keyboard's round buttons aren't so bad to type on, but they're not as easy to peg as the full-sized LX keyboard, and they're lined with velvecron, that fuzzyish paint for gadgets. Sidekick loyalists might not like the sliding screen, but I think it's tops.

<![CDATA[Sidekick LX and Sidekick Slide Go Official]]> Last week, I played with T-Mobile's upcoming Sidekick LX built by Sharp and Sidekick Slide, built by Motorola. Though it's still over a month from their "holiday" release, T-Mobile is acknowledging their existence today with some official pics and specs.

Both are more slender than anything yet seen in the Sidekick family: the $299 swivel-action LX is .86" thick, while the aptly named $199 Slide is even slimmer at .68". I can actually conceive of putting the Slide into my jeans pocket—a first for the notoriously chunky Sidekicks. Both have 1.3 megapixel cameras and microSD card slots that support cards up to 4GB.

The LX's 3" screen is spacious, bright and higher than the others in resolution, at 400 x 240 pixels. (The Slide's perfectly adequate screen is a more typical 320x240.) Typing is a bit easier on the LX, too, since the keyboard area is a bit wider and the keys themselves have more spacing than ever before. The LX is available in dark brown and midnight blue, as you see in the gallery, and comes with a 128MB microSD card—not quite what you're gonna want, but better than nothing.

In case you were wondering, T-Mo mentioned that the Sidekick 3 would be phased out, though the iD would stay in circulation as the most affordable option in the lineup at $49. Also, these Sidekicks bring with them long overdue arrival of MMS for sending photos. That's right, no longer will Sidekick users have to attach photos to e-mails, you know, like it was the 1980s or something.

<![CDATA[Sidekick Slide Pic Surfaces]]> If you've wondered what the Sidekick Slide looks like, now we have more than just that render we showed you last month. Boy Genius has somehow uncovered a real photo of it, with little other info but this single pic. So go ahead, behold the beauty, the majesty of Danger's T-Mobile-bound Sidekick Slide, otherwise known as "Zante." [Boy Genius Report]

<![CDATA[Sidekick Users Getting MySpace App]]> If you thought Helio was the only handheld device to have a dedicated MySpace app, think again. T-Mobile and Danger are planning to roll out a Sidekick MySpace app that lets you upload pics, edit profiles and do many of the things kids used to sneak into Apple stores for for.

Sidekick 3 and Sidekick iD users will be able to grab it, and the Sidekick Slide (a.k.a. Zante) will get this installed by default.

<![CDATA[Sidekick 4 and Sidekick Slide?]]> Boy Genius and Engadget got their hands on some renders from Danger that seem to be the upcoming Sidekick 4 and Sidekick Slide. The Slide, seen in a domain registered by T-Mobile, looks to be fatter than the regular Sidekick 4/Sidekick 3 we've seen before.

The Sidekick 4, if these renders are correct, has a wide screen that fills out the entirety of the middle section, and pretty much keeps the same-ish face buttons as the 3. But with great messengers like the Helio Ocean upping the ante for QWERTY phones, what's the next gen going to bring to the table that we haven't already seen?

<![CDATA[Possible Upcoming Sidekicks: LX, LE, Slide]]> Hiptop3 did some digging around on whois databases and discovered three new domains registered by T-Mobile. They are, in random order, sidekicklx.com, sidekickle.com, and sidekickslide.com. T-Mobile's already rolled out Sidekick Limited Editions for the Sidekick 3, but we haven't heard much about any phones properly dubbed the LX, LE or Slide.
