To be fair, didn't they recover the data after a couple of weeks? So, it was more like a temporary amnesia. That is perfectly fine for me because I usually think of the folks I am going to call and the groceries I am going to purchase a few weeks before I do. Apparently I am the perfect customer: A really slow person. #sidekick
i remember when i moved there a few years back that everyone was all up in peoples faces about how awesome it was, yet i always thought it was really clunky and bulky.
@f0rge: How much does the monthly data plan cost? For instance, the iPhone 3g is $200 vs. $400 for the original iPhone. However, you ended up paying more over the 2 year contract, since the monthly plan was $10 more.
But it's so...sidekick. The design is pretty dated. I think for $200 you can actually get a decent enough unlocked phone and not have to renew your contract or sign on with T-Mobile. I just don't see how anyone is going to sign up a new account for T-Mobile to get this for $200 when the iPhone is the same price, and I don't see how any T-Mobile customer is going to want to pay $200 to sign on for another contract when there's so many good unlocked offerings to be had for the same price. I am a T-Mobile customer that was thinking about renewing and looked at the new sidekick...I spent my $200 bucks for a new phone after my phone broke on an unlocked LG Secret and have been totally happy with it. It might be closer to a feature phone than a smart phone, but I've always thought of the sidekick as a glorified feature phone with some smart functions...and for $200 there are better options out there.
@TheCrudMan: If we're talkin' T-Mobile, the better phone to compare it to is the G1, which is also a step or two above this. I've always liked the bar of soap shape of the sidekicks though, great for pocket extraction.
Outside of an occasional celebrity pre-iPhone days, the only people I've actually seen carrying/using a sidekick look like they're the kind of people who "Keep it real" and live their lives according to the mottos "Thug Life", "Straight Hood", and are a part of Lil Kim's entourage.
Now, I understand that certain technologies appeal to certain groups, but I have yet to ever see anyone not in ecco/fubu/rockawear/or who is not Paris Hilton carrying one of these things.
@Lite: does not like fishsticks...: Hahaha, that was awful, irrelevent, ignorant/naive and a little insensitive all within 2 sentences. You sir, make me Lol.
@Bo Shonka: Actually, I'm being serious. The only time I've ever seen anyone actually use one, was when a celebrity was leaving the radio station next door to my office back in AZ... And there'd be like 8 people (4 of which were big enough to count as 2 people each) all futzing away on their sidekicks.
I have literally never seen anyone else outside that narrow stereotype use one. Ever.
Mostly it strikes me as the Sidekick has become pretty irrelevant in the world of smart phones right now. Where you have at computing device that is also a phone, rather than a phone that is also a computing device.

I'd bet 90% of today's self-described "computer geeks" don't even know what is a TSR program.
I used Sidekick all the time, and heavily used it's editor (with Wordstar's commands) for dBASE III programming. #sidekick

Contract fees are higher. Plus, I think the plans for it are pretty standard for ATT.

Will there be metal detectors at the event?

The G1 was party worthy, the G2 should be even more so... But a sidekick launch eventy?

was this meant to be some sort of hidden/code lang for: Black ppl are thugs?

I was simply stating that a specific genre of people seemed to be the only people I ever saw using them. And, now they (Sidekicks) seem rather dated.
