Unfortunately, it only works in the winter time. Not so with the Slicer, which promises good times and grass stains.

What makes the Slicer so great is that it has detachable ice trays on the bottom. Simply pop them off, fill them with water, stick them in your freezer and you'll be all set to race down grassy hills like you're on snow. It looks amazingly fun and perhaps dangerous. [Product Page via Treehugger]

<![CDATA[The Rocket Sled that Made Winter Cry]]> Ky Michaelson, or The Rocketman as he's known in some circles, doesn't trudge through the frozen winter tundra like the rest of us.

His custom-built rocket sled is modeled after a miniature Radio Flyer. Of course, his features machined aluminum rails, oak planks, front-mounted steering bars, speedometer, and, oh right, a freaking rocket strapped to the back.

But our favorite part of the rocket sled isn't the sled itself. It's that The Rocketman is testing his creation near some families who were probably happily ice skating on that pond before some lunatic Apocalypse Now'd the otherwise tranquil atmosphere, replacing the aroma of roasted chestnuts and hot chocolate with spent rocket fuel. <![CDATA[Millennium Falcon Sled is as Close as You'll Ever Get to the Real Thing]]> You may never fly the Millennium Falcon with a Wookie by your side, but at least you can fly down a hill on a rough approximation of the famous ship. That's still pretty good.

The Millennium Falcon sled is essentially a souped-up saucer sled, allowing you to fly down an icy slope, spinning around wildly and running into young kids who aren't quite sure what someone as old as you is doing on the old sledding hill. It's pretty expensive for a saucer sled at $34.99, but at the end of the day, it's shaped like the Millennium Falcon. I mean, come on. [Amazon via Oh Gizmo!]

<![CDATA[X-WIng Sled is Porkins' Transport of Choice in Tahoe]]> We've had X-Wing Fighters that go up and down; here's an X-Wing that just goes down. The venue was Minneapolis' Powderhorn Park, and the event was Minneapolis' annual Art Sled rally. Photographer Tony Nelson took pictures of the day, including a rather spanky la-la double robot one, which you can see below, alongside another shot of the X-Wing after its tumble in the snow.

<![CDATA[Alu Sled Shock-Absorbs Your Butt on Bumpy Downhill Slopes]]> In the world of snow fun, there are sleds, there are tea-trays and there are even plastic bin bags (if you are a suicidal sledger, as I was in my teenage years). And then there is this, the Alu sled. Built from aluminum, the shock-absorbent silver slider has plastic runners, a handbrake, and packs up into a sexy little carry case when you're done tobogganing (see below).

<![CDATA[VW Sleds Are Slick, Slippery and Schweet]]> VWs are in the Gizmodo news these days, where the other day we saw one pulling a Boeing 747, and now here's a sled carrying the earmarks of the timeless Volkswagen Golf GTI design. Is this one badass-looking conveyance, or what?

Volkswagen nailed this one. Click to see the variety of beautifully-designed V-Dub sleds, with seven pics in all.

Hey, sleds are important to those of us out here on the frozen tundra, giving us something to do when we're not bowling or flying our radio-controlled helicopters indoors.
