SlingCatcher Available For Purchase Now
At long last, Sling Media's powerful, media extending/streaming/projecting SlingCatcher is available for purchase, at retailers like Best Buy and Fry's, as well as from Sling directly (the product page isn't quite live yet, but should be later today). For those unfamiliar, the SlingCatcher takes a sling stream, multimedia files, or your computer desktop and plays it back on whatever television it's connected to. SlingNerds Rejoice: Slingbox Pro-HD and SlingCatcher Finally Available for Pre-Order
The Slingers are giddy today: After a long wait, many good things are happening with their favorite placeshifter. The Slingbox Pro-HD, which lets you sling 1080i content around a local area network, and the SlingCatcher, a set-top box intended to receive content from other Slingboxes, are both available for pre-order, $300 a pop, and better late than never. Windows-based Slingers can be psyched about the latest beta of the Sling Player 2.0 (available for Macs by like 2047 or something). While we're at it, SlingPlayer Mobile for Symbian UIQ just arrived. Leaked SlingCatcher Packaging Shots Reveal Specs?
Almost a year after catching wind of the SlingCatcher, The Tomo Report claims to have laid its on hands on pictures of the final packaging, which happens to splay the device's specs. According to the box, it'll require an HDTV, along with a USB 2.0 HDD or memory stick if you want to use SlingSync. It supports a ridiculous number of formats: WMV, MPEG- 2, MPEG-4, H.264 and Xvid for video, and MP2, MP3, WMA, AAC, AC3 and PCM for audio, plus a number of containers. Sling Media Slingcatcher is Real: IP Video Streamer
A few weeks ago, Dave Zatz dubbed the device in some leaked Sling FCC filings "Slingcatcher". He was right on. Amazing psychic powers, Dave! It's Sling Media's latest box, and it doesn't send video out over networks, apparently in HD. It streams video inward. Which is kind of yawn-tastic, in a day where the idea of IP video boxes are common. Or rumored to be. Good thing for that high res capable HDMI connection. More »
