Again, not worth the asking price as far as I am concerned, especially since the "reviews" on the product page seem canned and their "sale price" uses some crazy math I am not familiar with. The Olymp is an off-season trainer that you strap into your boots and work your carving muscles with a turn simulator. It sure doesn't look as fun as normal skiing, what with you being stuck in one place, but it definitely will work the muscles you need to keep strong. The Sandviper is a board specially designed for surfing down sand dunes. Apparently, this sport is popular outside of Dubai, which makes me assume the board is crusted in diamonds and costs a few hundred thousand dollars. But hey, nothing's to stop you from doing it here in the good old US of A. Just get an old beater board, find your local sand pits and go to town. The Price: $160

The Verdict: The wireless Audex system which controls your iPod works like any other iPod RF remote. There's an RF receiver dock adapter and a wireless remote for controls. The system is advertise to work with 3rd Gen iPods or newer and from our testing we found the iPod touch and iPhone can not properly be controlled.

The iPod is meant to be housed in a padded pouch inside the backpack which features a headphone extension cable that is rerouted through the backpack and down the right shoulder strap where a female headphone jack is provided. For the remote Burton has made a rubber housing located on the left should strap which makes the buttons accessible at all times. The wireless controller is removable and works as it should, providing the basic play/pause, skip forward/back, and volume up/down.

This backpack has some pretty impressive storage for its size and with only two large sections which incorporate many unique storage compartments allow for nice organization of your laptop, gadgets and small gear. When packed to the brim the bag can be a little bulky and stiff but the heavily padded back and shoulder straps allow for a somewhat comfortable fit. This backpack is not intended to be worn while snowboarding and frankly because of the shape and lack of an extra cross strap we wouldn't recommend it. It seems more fitting that the backpack be used around town or on short trips when you want to easily control your iPod's music and need to carry your laptop and other gear.

Price: $30

The Lowdown: I'd never go riding without this multitool. The device is sturdy, and the screwdriver's been helpful countless times I'd want to adjust bindings quickly. The handle and spring loaded release for the tool are easily useful with gloves on, and lock at 90 and 180 degree positions for more screwing speed or power. The tape measure is a bit short at 22 inches, so not that great for measuring between the feet when setting wide stances. The entire thing is extremely durable, except the plastic lid for the bits, wrench and pipe. The pipe itself works really really well, as you can see from the photos above where it is being demonstrated, packed, with basis leaves and pencil shavings. The aforementioned plastic shield working as a built in wind shield during lift rides. (You'll still need a pipe lighter and not some cheap bic, though, on the mountain.) If I could redesign it, I'd lose the tape measure, and wrench and build in the lighter.

It consists of a 90-foot main landing ramp, with a takeoff point that's 8-10 feet below that—so if you get off on a bad foot, or whatever it is in snowboarding lingo, you could very well get a face full of ramp.

Snow wise, the ramp will use three different types (four, if the weather keeps doing Thursday night what it's doing right now): snow machine output, shaved ice and, my favorite—snow made from liquid nitrogen. It looks like a pretty good time, and it's all going down on Thursday night—I'm not as big a snow bunny as Brian Lam (West Coasters make sure you check out the Snowmodo 2009 details!), but I'm going to try to be there to see it up close. [Red Bull Snowscrapers]

Riding the new Peak2Peak Gondola that connects Whistler's Blackcomb and Whistler Mountain summits, over 2.7 miles, must be exhilarating. But jumping off it is just insane.

Shortly after opening, these Two Red Bull sponsored lunatics rode a car to the mid point of the ride and jumped. That makes for a good preview of the fall, should one of these boxes full of 28 people ever fall out of the sky. (I couldn't help thinking of this, I have a decent fear of heights.)

The Gondola itself holds records for its unsupported span of 1.88 miles between the two furthest towers, and for its rise, measuring over a quarter mile above the ground at its highest point.

At 16 miles per hour, it makes the traverse between the mountain tops, in 11 minutes. Contrast that with the usual ski down one peak, plus a drive to the base of the other, plus a number of gondola, chair and tow rides upward, which easily could take over an hour or three.

I've been to Whistler once before, and remember two things: a 45 minute run down blackcomb's glacier to the village, and a Nintendo sponsored park. I guess I have yet another reason to go back.

Snow-Baller: Nothing beats a good old-fashioned snowball fight when the conditions are right. You know—when the snow is wet enough to be densely packed. The only problem is that forming the snowballs yourself reduces your efficiency and therefore compromises your chances of success in battle. The Snow-Baller should help to eliminate that problem by speeding up the production process (although you may have to make a trade-off between quantity and quality). [Sno-Baller via Link]

Snowball Blaster: If you are really serious about having an advantage in battle, you could step up to this full-fledged snowball gun. It sculpts the balls for you (three at a time) and can sling em' up to 50 feet. [Hammacher Schlemmer via Link]

IceBox Igloo Maker: If you are going to engage in an all-out snowball war, a protective fort is going to be essential. Using this tool you can build a quality igloo, brick by brick in one to three hours. [Icebox via Link]

Snowman Maker: What's a war without an army? Using this mold, you can crank out a battalion of frosty, button-nosed warriors. Kind of like a wintery version of Emperor Qin Shi Huang's terracotta army.

Slegoon: There are sleds...and then there is the Slegoon. Imagine, if you will, blazing down an ice coated hill in one of these things. The g-forces pressing you against the seat, the snow set ablaze behind you, kids on normal sleds getting devoured by your wake. What was that sound? A sonic boom? You just might survive this if you can stay focused and you don't run out of track. [Link]

Gas Powered Snowboard: Part snowboard, part snowmobile, this contraption has a 6.5-hp 4-cycle gas engine that can get you traveling at speeds up to 18 mph. It can also run for up to 2 hours on a 3/4 tank of gasoline. [Hammacher Schlemmer]

The Grinch: If you prefer riding a traditional snowboard, you can still enjoy some assistance from technology in the form of this Grinch slingshot. The device is hammered into the ground and can rocket snowboarders and surfers into ramps and waves with a towrope attached to a 7HP engine. [Grinch via Link]

Ice Sauna: Of course, there is more to do during the winter than snowball fights and snowboarding. Apparently, sitting in a room where it is 10 degrees below zero can be quite relaxing (for northern European countries at least). I'll take their word for it—although if this woman is included I'm all about it. [Link]

Snow at Home: No Snow? No problem! The SG7 snowmaking system can turn your lawn into a winter wonderland on demand. Unfortunately, it requires freezing temperatures to operate (and it doesn't come cheap at $3300). Might as well just wait for mother nature to do her thing. [Snow at Home]

Instant Snow: Okay, so you don't live in an area where the temperatures dip below freezing. You can still join in the fun with this Instant Snow kit. All you need to do is add water to the powder mix and you can watch it transform into a compound that looks and feels like real snow. Each container can make eight gallons of artificial snow, which should be enough for a warm weather snowball fight. [Steve Spangler Science]
