Sony A900 Ad Leaked, Actual Camera Coming September 10th?

Here's the first print ad for the Sony A900, spotted in a Danish photography magazine, enjoying bubbles like an 8-year-old girl. But if that's still not enough to convince you that this 25 megapixel SLR is just days from release, Sony has confirmed an SLR announcement during a Tokyo event next Wednesday. Short of bribing Mr. Sony knocking on your door with an A900 in-hand, this is pretty much the best we can nail things down for the time being. [DPReview and PCWorld via Photography Bay]

Sony a900 25-Megapixel DSLR Spotted in the Wild?

We are starting to butt up to Sony's flagship a900 DSLR's release date—August or September, though Sept. strikes me as more likely—so it makes some sense it'd be spotted prancing about in the wild. It's hard to be certain it's an a900, but the spotter says three things made it stand out from other Sonys: the optical viewfinder, the thumb rest, and the side ports. (Compare with the a350 and a700.) Either way, we'll be seeing more of this full-frame 25MP monster soon. [Dyxum, Thanks Dario!]

Pogue Reviews Sony A300 DSLR: Live View "Perfection"

The big shebang on Sony's latest entry-level DSLRs, the a300 and a350, is their two-way tilt-y live view. Pogueman takes a peek today and really digs it: "Live View on existing cameras is slow, noisy and deeply confusing" but on the a300 it's "a completely different experience." More »

Shifty Eyes On Sony Alpha 350: Shooting from the Hip

Confirmed: The Sony Alpha 350 is perfect for crotch-shots, limited only by the LCD's viewing angle, which is good, but not great. They weirdly didn't have the A300, but the A350 is the exact same, except for MP count—even the Sony rep said so. I'm honestly not too big on the body otherwise—too many buttons on maybe?—so I'm not sure the up-and-down LCD is going to sway me. Fujifilms' S100FS has one too, plus the awesome ISO performance, so it might be better suited to "dark" purposes. I'm gonna Battlemodo 'em later tonight.

Sony A300 and A350 DSLRs Have Two-Way Tilting Live View

Sony is officially the last one to the PMA DSLR party, getting real with the A300 and A350 DSLRs we glimpsed earlier. The entry-level 10.2MP A300 (same CCD sensor as the A200, $800 w/lens) snaps away at "about 3fps," 100-3200 ISO, built-in image stabilization (vs. Nikon and Canon's lens approach) and indeed sports that oddball 2-way tilt screen for live view—good for semi-discretely shooting from your crotch, Chen-style. The A350 has the same features, but packs in 14.2MP (hey Sony, not the highest in its class), fires at 2.5fps in continuous shooting and will run $800 for the body. More »

Leaked Pictures of Sony A300 and A350 DSLRs Materialize

PMA 2008 DSLR leaks abound today. In addition to the cluster bomb of point-and-shoots dropped on us earlier this week, a Dyxum forum member turns up supposed full frontals of a pair of yet-to-officially exist Sony DSLRs, the A300 (previously peaked with its twisty, turny LCD for live view) and A350 from SonyStyle. Pics Surface of Sony DSLR with Flip-Screen Finder

Spotted: What's this? A Sony A200 digital SLR with a flip-screen finder? Others are guessing that it's an A300. WTF: Either way, it's a great way to get the most out of that live view capability. [Dyxum Forum]

Best Point-and-Shoot Cameras of 2007

Not all of us like fitting a DSLR in our pants when we go on vacation, which is why DigitalCameraInfo's best point-and-shoot cameras is useful for just about everyone. They graded on different criteria, with the Fuji F50fd taking the prize in resolution, the Sony T100 in least image noise, the Canon A570IS in color accuracy, the Sony H7 in low light and the Canon S5 IS in video. There's no one camera that dominates more than one spot, so it's mostly up to you and where you'll snap pics to decide which P&S to buy. It's too bad DCI didn't rate how well these cameras can fit into a pocket, which is as important as anything else they tested for. [DigitalCameraInfo]

Sony NW-A800 Review: Not the Killer Walkman We Wanted

As much as I'd like to see Sony come out with a killer Walkman, it ain't happening any time soon. Sure, the A800 plays video and lets you create playlists on the fly, but it doesn't have any features that make you wanna rush out and buy it. To me, it's just another fish in the sea. Check out the video for yourself. More »

Gizmodo Frankenreview: Canon 400D Rebel XTi

The EOS 400D Rebel XTi is Canon's latest addition to the sub-$1,000 dSLR camera market. Technical improvements include an impressive 10.1 megapixels, 9-point autofocus, 3 frame-per-second image capture and 27-frame bursts. Add a self-cleaning image sensor, and the XTi looks like one hell of a camera. But while Canon was sleeping, the camera gods blessed consumers with the Sony A100 and Nikon D80 - two formidable opponents. Check out the results in our 4D bargraph and then hit the jump for our frankenreview: the best parts of every review blended into a succulent technosmoothie. More »
