Updates for Vista, XP Cleared by Microsoft After Delays

It looks like Microsoft has sorted out the issues that came up with its new Service Pack for Windows XP as well as Vista SP1. XP SP3 has been sent out to Windows Update and the Microsoft Download Center and Microsoft has also resumed automatic distribution of Vista SP1. Try to remain calm; I know it's exciting. [Microsoft]

It's April 29, and Microsoft has to make the unfortunate decision of delaying Windows XP SP3 due to compatibility issues between it and Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System, something none of you should be familiar with unless you work in retail. If you don't, the service pack has been unofficially available for a couple days now and you can go ahead and install it, but the final final version won't be ready for a little bit. [PCMag]

Windows XP SP3 will start shipping to manufacturers and IT workers next Monday, 4/21. The Following Tuesday, 4/29, it will be made available for download over Windows Update. According to software development firm Devil Mountain Software, Service Pack 3 for Windows XP is a "must have" update. Because when they ran the Office productivity test suite on a preview version of SP3, they found performance boosts of 10%. 40GB PlayStation 3 Doesn't Have 40% Failure Rate

The PS3 is an extremely well-built, highly reliable machine. So we were fairly certain that when Belgian game retailer Games Mania claimed their 40GB models had a 40% failure rate, either the claim was extremely isolated or completely bogus. In short, we were right. Sony has issued an official statement to "categorically deny" the claims.

SCEE's David Reeves also mentioned he was "disappointed that such extremely sloppy journalism has resulted in this totally inaccurate story." We are too, Mr. Reeves. Just like we're disappointed by the lack of Blu-ray 1.1 spec in the new firmware, disappointed that difficult PS3 development has led to lousy ports and disappointed...ah, we kid.
