So I'm trying to figure this out. If I crash my car AT 1MPH, I will spend 1 day in a hospital bed? OW, the whiplash!!! I'm going to sue.
That also means that if I'm going AT the posted 25mph speed limit, I'm going to still crash and spend nearly a month in the hospital. The sign should just say "Don't Drive, Stay in your homes and watch TV"
Seriously though, if I'm going AT 25mph, and the person in the opposing lane is going 25mph, and one of us veers over the double yellow line, that's a 50mph crash, that can equate to death, right there. And there was no speeding involved. Maybe the sign should have a big picture of a cell phone/smart phone and say "PAY FU^%ING ATTENTION, F&%TARD!"
But just another way to sensationalize how all forms of speed equates to instant death, and justify why road cops are an important to society. It's funny how people are behind the idea of punishing speeders, up until they're the ones sitting in the median waiting for a cop to run their info.
@Ninety-9: Furthermore, I'm wondering if you went 100mph past the sign, would it say "00 days in hospital bed"? Because that would be an awesome use of that 2-digit display.
And I fail to understand how, in a democratic nation, I see 99% of the people on highways and expressways going >55mph*, yet it's still a violation of code to go faster than 55mph. That makes my head hurt almost every day. That and the fact that the police don't bother enforcing at speeds <70-75mph.
I hope that is just the speed display instead of a calculation.
It would totally mess me up if I drove past one, seeing me going 49 in a 45 zone and the display saying 4 day jail fine. Thinking it was a speed display and it showing that I was going 4mph.
this is a neat idea, thought giz reported this a while ago. But I think the kid crying blood is more effective. Now I understand it's more for when it rains and the water triggers the blood, but I'm sure someone can come up with one that freaks you out during a sunny blue skied day.
@farker: So by that logic, the only thing to do is stop in front of the sign. Otherwise you'd be spending a minimum of 1 day in the hospital and $1,000. Which still sucks.
This could create some traffic issues.

*Unless there is heavy traffic, natch.
