Even if this fails, it isn't a loss since both rovers are so far over their expected mission life everything at this point is a bonus.

The Mars rovers transformed me from a NASA critic to a super supporter. #space

The two rovers have performed beyond what was asked of them. Horray for NASA for their excellent work!

The rovers have performed magnificently. Imagine what an updated version could accomplish if it was controlled directly from a long-term base on the planet. #mars

The Rovers are proof positive that NASA should keep their tech builds in-house! #mars

"we must remind ourselves these rovers were built for 90-day missions. Spirit is currently going on five years, nine months. "

maybe that means Mars is not quite as inhospitable as we thought. Maybe, just maybe, we should be a little more optimistic with regard to our ability to survive. #mars

Flash memory is not a magnetic storage medium and thus magnets do nothing to the contents stored in it.

At this point, who cares? Mission accomplished. We flew robots to mars, had all of them land and function correctly, and had them function of years when they were supposed to only last for 90 days. And to add to it all NASA was one of the few federal agencies that got its budget severely slashed during the last president's term.

Its really a shame that the common tax payer won't give a shit until China, Japan, or India, Russia or the EU try to do something cool. Watch when Japan gets that space based solar power system into orbit. Suddenly we'll be neck deep in space race syndrome. #mars

@ddhboy: It is unfortunate that the common tax payer doesn't give two shits unless a NASA mission involves explosions (not counting the big continuous one at the beginning of each one) or human landings... #mars

6 years is pretty impressive. I don't think I've ever had electronics on Earth last that long.
