Whereas in star trek, you can do nothing BUT hit things. Everyone just hopes their "shields hold".
I think star trek.

Stormtroopers were only lousy shots with blaster rifles when they were:
A) basic run-of-the-mill Stormies, and
B) on a planet or something shaped like a planet.
Think about it. It makes sense. On the Tantive IV (not shaped like a planet), regular Stormies tore the place up. On Tattoine, Sandtroopers (not regular Stormimes) tore the place up. On the first Death Star, regular Stormies couldn't even hit the hallway walls. On Hoth, Snowtroopers (not regular Stormies) tore the place up. On Bespin, regular Stormies couldn't hit anything (the one scene were _someone_ managed to shoot something, namely C-3PO, we never saw who/what fired the shot). On Endor, Biker Scouts (not regular Stormies) tore the place up...even though they did end up losing on account of having regular Stormies fighting alongside them.

I'd place my bet on Rick Berman, every time.

Lasers, as they are called in Star Wars, are not lasers as they are known in Star Trek. They are really more of a light plasma than anything, since they are powered by an accelerated liquid-metal fuel called Tibanna. This fuel is "accelerated" into the beams of energy that come out of the weapons, which are loosely referred to as lasers. They are not just beams of light in the classical sense... on top of which, turbolasers are STUPIDLY powerful.
Also, to think that all an Imperial-class Star Destroyer (NOT an Executer-class, by the by) would do is shoot some turbolasers at a ship like that is ridiculous. Especially considering that they wanted to capture the ship instead of destroy it... the ISD would have used probably a combination of ion cannon and mag-pulse warheads to completely disable the Enterprise.
Another point of contention, for me, was that the Enterprise magically disabled an ISD with a two-torpedo spread... nuh-uh, no way. A ship like that can take a pounding from scores of proton torpedos (the closest we can get to the photon spread for this comparison) without breaking the shields. So, I call utter BS on that.
Finally, just to prove that I'm not STRICTLY a Star Wars fanboy, I have to agree with what was said earlier about Vader summarily killing everyone onboard the Enterprise at once... no way in hell. Anakin Skywalker BEFORE he was Vader could never do that, and he was immeasurably more powerful.
The way I think it really would have played out:
1.) ISD contacts the Enterprise, tells them to prepare to be boarded.
2.) Enterprise tells the ISD to fuck off.
3.) ISD begins ion cannon bombardment (since they have no clue what systems should be targeted with turbolasers) and sends out TIE bombers to finish off disabling it with mag-pulse torpedoes.
4.) Enterprise hits the ISD with MULTIPLE photon spreads, probably knocking the shields out and causing some minimal hull damage (since they also have no idea what to target on an ISD).
5.) Enterprise is finally disabled, brought onboard the ISD with its tractor beams.
6.) Vader does exactly what he did with the Tantive IV, sends troops in. I suspect the firefight would be a bit more prolonged than it was with the Tantive IV, since there are a lot more people fighting.
7.) Vader takes technology from the Enterprise and presents it to the Emperor... the Empire now has better shield tech than the Rebellion, and maybe things go a bit differently for them in the end :-)
Ok, all done.

I could've been that Vader pulls the force chocke trick on Picard.
Still, upon realizing the severity of this attack Riker would've gone:
"Uhm, Lieutenant Worf, fire at will!"
And that would've been the end of that Star Destroyer.
11/28/08
We don't know what Anakin would have been capable of because he had barely begun his Sith training before he got turned into a cyborg, and he lost a lot of his raw power when that happened because most of his body isn't even alive anymore.
11/28/08
I always wondered why Worf never capped Riker in the back of the head when he said to "fire at Will"...
11/28/08
I always suspected this. It's blatantly obvious that Q derives his powers from the force. Who better to be a Sith lord than Q? And, we all know how well the Enterprise fares against the Continuum.
While their technology is lacking in the face of the Federations, the Empire has the Force, so, they win. (until someone figures out how to resurrect Kirk. he'd boink all the green women until the Empire gave up.)
11/28/08
All the green women? So that would include the Rodians, Gammoreans, and Hutts? Oh yeah, and Yoda's girlfriend.

there is no way Vader has enough knowledge of the force to choke everyone at once!!
oh, and to the Star Wars guy that's gonna say"nuh-uh they had turbo lasers on star destroyers and that is a poor representation of the canon"
well, at least Star trek only had tribbles and star wars has to still deal with jar-jar...
oh man i can go on and on (but i cant because i'm busy right now...)

"In every measurable sense our ship is far superior"
(Data Smirks)
Its it really all about size? Cause I don't feel that way...
Besides, they don't have a shot of Data falling to the ground. I am sure he is still "fully functional"!

Tasha Yar so lucked out with him the "The Naked Now"!
Wow you are the only one who got my reference!

This is how its is. They are both completely made up universes, so no matter how much you dig, you will NEVER find any way to compare a phaser to a laser. It just isn't possible as both technologies are fictional.
That being said, the Empire was built to be a conquering force. Large ships and sheer firepower was their goal, whereas the Federation focuses on exploration. If both technologies were equal, the Empire would surely win.
That being said, since there is no way to compare technologies, and every installment of each show is contradictory, this entire thing is pointless.
And regardless of who would win, I will still like Star Trek better.
Now, I am not naive enough to think that this post could prevent the ensuing flame war, so flame on.
11/28/08
Nonsense. We've seen how quickly the Death Star can blow up an entire planet, and we've also seen how tediously slow and nearly-ineffectual Federation phasers are against a teeny little asteroid. The math skews decidedly in favor of Star Wars. That and the fact that they clearly aren't using what we call "lasers".
