I don't care about getting a free MBP or a fancy iPhone. I hope maybe Jobs can be charitable and swing some money my mother's way so that she doesn't die of cancer this year. She didn't invent a computer but still - I'd like for her to not die.
IF JOBS BOUGHT A LIVER, THEN I HOPE HE DIES A SLOW PAINFUL DEATH FROM ORGAN REJECTION

He has the new iLiver 3GS. Glad he's doing well.
I personally think he should relax and enjoy his 2nd lease on life.

And they left out the part where Jobs was considering having it with some fava beans and a nice chianti.....

I won't believe it until Apple makes it fact.

Every one of these stories comes out right after the close of trading. This news hits after the close of trading, a day after a major news crash, before Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and the coronation of Barack Obama.
History fun fact. The NSA, one of the most secretive government agencies, was signed into existence on Election Day in 1948 to guarantee that the news would be buried.
Jobs is being disingenuous. I hope he recovers but this behavior needs to stop.

Mr. Jobs,
You are a brilliant man. You undoubtedly know why your health is newsworthy. Feigning ignorance does not become you.
Please be forthright. Speculation and uncertainty are more damaging to your company's valuation than the news which you may or may not be hiding. As an officer, you owe a fiduciary duty to your investors.

Jobs has positioned himself so that Apple = Jobs, good or bad shareholders and the press see the two as the same thing.
Here's my question though: Do you think there would be all these stories had Jobs said right off the bat, "I'm still battling my disease, I'm going to be taking time off to recover, and I'm uncertain as to when I'll return" or do you think that since he's so tied to Apple these stories were going to happen anyways?

Investors - real investors who look at stocks in the long view - want to know whether Jobs will be around to make decisions and if not, when and if he'll be back. Is Tim Cook a placeholder or a replacement? As it stands, no one really knows whether Tim Cook is an "interim" CEO or the next CEO. Let's not forget that Jobs was "interim" CEO for a time before becoming the CEO. So which is it? Who is and will be running the company is vital information - regardless of how visionary or mundane the person is. What is known is that Apple cannot be trusted to give this information.
If Jobs isn't careful, he's going to find himself ousted by the Board, which owes a fiduciary duty to the shareholders to protect the value of the company's share value. If the questions produce continuing valuation, there could be an argument for an ouster if only to remove speculation from the equation.

However IMO since he has stepped aside (taken a leave of absence) it is no longer an issue in my mind.
