Boxee, Boxee added an XUL framework to their browser, allowing it to display full HTML pages, including in-line Hulu videos.

This is the latest one-up to occur between the two companies, who have been dueling over Hulu's TV accessibility.

Also noteworthy is that Boxee's new API allows fully XML and Python program for complete customization of Boxee app UIs. One of the first apps to make use of this API is Pandora, which will launch soon, and give you the same online experience on your TV screen. [Boxee]

<![CDATA[ZillionTV: Oh Jeez, Hulu and Roku Done Had Themselves a Baby]]> Streaming TV is on the up and up—that much is clear. What, then, does ZillionTV offer that, say, Hulu, Netflix, Vudu, and Apple TV don't? A little convergence, maybe.

That's not to say that ZillionTV is drastically more versatile than any number of existing set-top arrangements. It does, however, look attractively simple. Here's what it is, in a nutshell: a set-top box that streams free content, a la Hulu, except directly to your TV. After a $100 setup fee, it's mostly advertising-supported—again, like Hulu. The company claims a wide range of content partnerships, which is clearly necessary to compete in this field.

But it's not just ad-supported TV that Zillions is focused on, as paid content will be available as well. They hope to offer up premium TV and film content for individual purchase or rental, though your payment won't net you an actual file—the system is entirely stream-based.

If all this sounds familiar, that's because none of it is distinctly new. ZillionTV hasn't created something that anyone with some time and a Boxee install couldn't patch together themselves—but it might be able to provide it in a simpler, more accessible package. The company is promising lots of features, including a motion-sensing remote (by the whizzes at Hillcrest) instant-on streaming on anything better than a 1.5mbps connection, that will make the system attractive as a do-it-all set-top box, but until we have more than promises and renders, we'll have to reserve full judgment.

For what it's worth, Jon Healey at the LAT has tried the system, and found it impressive. He does—and this is crucial—note that ZillionTV might be having some issues securing rights to all the content it wants, but again, we'll have to wait and see. [ZillionTV]

<![CDATA[All Episodes of Star Trek TOS, MacGyver, Twin Peaks and More Now Available For Free Streaming]]> It's not quite Hulu, but CBS just dropped a ton of their old favorites into a decent flash web player, serving them up for free with a couple short ad clips. Plus, Melrose Place!

The flash player kind of sucks, but apparently the site works internationally, which isn't always the case for these types of services (maybe not - commenters aren't having any luck outside the states). So all of you expatriates missing that unique brain sensation only golden-era USA TV can provide, you are in luck sadly still fucked. Looking at a lot of these, I can feel being dug up from deep in my cortexes the exact feeling of being at home sick in elementary school in 1991.

Here's the complete list of shows, for which almost all have complete seasons:

Beauty and the Beast
Beverly Hills 90210
Dynasty
Family Ties
Have Gun - Will Travel
Hawaii Five-0
The Love Boat
MacGyver
Melrose Place
Perry Mason
Star Trek: The Original Series
The Twilight Zone
Twin Peaks

Enjoy. [CBS Classics - thanks, Trina and Tony!]

<![CDATA[Joost Flash Player Launches Tonight, Has Serious Hulu Envy]]> The poor kids at Joost—and their partners at Viacom—thought the future of TV on the computer would be a discrete app that blended a slick TV emulator with internets! power. They were wrong, Hulu and Google were right: It's all about the browser. So that's where Joost is going. Its Flash-based player officially launches full-throttle tonight. The early word from paidContent is that it's still no Hulu—the best place for CBS content, maybe, but it's got a lot of catching up to do. Though really, it's not clear that it ever can. There's a reason our internet TV remote is heavy on the Hulu. [Joost via paidContent]
