It’s assumed that when robots one day replace humans in boxing and ultimate fighting bouts, the ensuing battles will be like watching a real-life Transformers movie play out. But these tiny sumo robots tell a different story, with lightning fast fights that are over almost as quickly as they begin.
I remember one summer, when I was 10 or 11, I spent a day at home watching sumo wrestling on ESPN2. I came away from the experience thinking that sumo wrestling was boring and dumb. I would not have been so dismissive if some shit like this had gone down.
Sumo wrestlers: they're huge. The huger the better. End of story, right?
When you say the words "sumo wrestling," the first thing most people think of is two portly fellows locked in a deadly embrace. Robo-sumo is a different spectacle. Two tiny bots spasmodically twitch for 6 seconds, and then somebody wins.
