@MacPatrick: Holy crap! You think packaged beer is better than draft!? Despite your name and profile pic, I'm going to have to assume you're not actually Irish.
Boxes are actually good for beer / wine. Wine makers are starting to put better quality wines in boxes, they just need to get consumers to change their views of box = cheap.
The reason boxes are good is that light is the enemy of beer / wine. Light can cause oxidation and cause off tastes in the beer / wine. If the beverage goes straight from fermentation / conditioning to the air proof bag in the box, the wine or beer will be preserved in the best way possible.
@winshape: Because when you take the bag out of the box you can hold it directly over your mouth (and if you're feeling devilish you can squeeze it while its over someone else's mouth) and play silly drinking games with it.
I don't care if it was 25 cent per bottle equivalent, I still wouldn't drink that swill. Thankfully, the liquor store that I patronize has an aisle of single bottles from microbrews, and you can get 20% off if you buy any 6 together (as a six pack).
Some of us live in New York City and enjoy being able to get good and drunk on less than $40. You want to hate on cheap beer that's fine by me. But these two lovely barmaids are always happy to sell me a PBR tallboy for $3.
I'll take the lovely tattooed ladies of the dive bars of Manhattan and the cheap canned beer they sell me.
@OMG! Ponies!: And they would probably be selling you Keystone if it were made popular by the square rimmed glasses brigade. What I'm saying is that there are cheap beers out there that don't taste like donkey spit.
@OMG! Ponies!: i was always afraid if i ever visited NY i wouldn't be able to find a bar i could get sloshed at without going broke. you have brightened my day, good sir.
I bought one of these, was terrible. I took the box apart and saw that the plastic bag within was labelled "Riverdale Hospice". No wonder it tasted like piss.

The best part of wine in a box is that the bag comes out of the box.

Because Wine in a Mylar Bag is classier?
