I've been rocking the HERO OS on my G1 for a week or so now and can honestly say I don't know why you would want to use anything else. I wish they would come out with a HERO phone with a qwerty is all I'm sayin..

You know I've tripped a lot of circuits, oh lord I've maxed a lot of capacitors; but I never touched nothing that my logic board could kill.

you know I've seen a lot of machine intelligences ambulating around with BSODs in their eyes, but the pusherbot don't care if you simulate life or if your main-board fries.

I've cyanogen'ed my phone already. Should I restore it to Tmo OS just to get their legit Donut or is it the exact same thing I've been running?

@cudthecrud: why would you do that when Cyanogen's ROM still gives you functions that the legit 1.6 update isn't going to give you? Apps2SD ALONE is reason enough for me not to give a rat's ass for the legit update.

@cudthecrud: Just give it a few weeks and i'm sure there will be a cyanogen update with all those extras put in there (if they're any better than what it's already packaged in 4.0.4).

I've been running Donut features for a few weeks. Most of the changes are good, but I can't stand the new camera.

@Bloodbeard: same here. Been running Donut in one form or another for weeks thanks to Cyanogen. Overall it's good, new camera blows though. It runs faster when a lot of things aren't going on in the background. It's great when you're trying to do something, like, send a text message while on the phone through bluetooth but you have some other crap running in the background.

Ahhhh Android....so much potential, hamstrung by shit hardware....thanks HTC...really, I mean it thanks for the brillance that is the G1.

@Striderhayasa - Can we get some damn m/kb support?!: I know right? HTC has had a long history with putting yesteryear's technology into new phones and trying to make it sound shiney. Can't polish shit.

And I swear the first person who cites the mythbusters episode is getting a trout to the face.

I ordered mine tuesday - called just now to 1-877-453-1304 (tmo support) went through prompts - when asked what i wanted said "account specialist" few more prompts was with a account specialist.
I said I ordered my phone a couple days ago and saw Oprah was giving $100 off promo and wanted to know if I could be applied to my order. The lady worked her magic and viola - $100 code applied!! so might be worth a call if already ordered one!

Wait....Oprah featured the myTouch on her show?

Not for nothing-I mean, I like it when Android gets attention-but I haven't trusted her ability to grasp anything internet related since that 9,000 penises fiasco. ;-)

At that price it's almost worth buying one just to compare to my G1, to see which I prefer.

In reply to Android Hacking For The Masses
Though I would drop in to comment on a few things. For all those new to flashing a new rom, there are a few things to be careful of even though you now have root access.

1st Its a good idea to have some sort of access to your SD card in your phone OTHER then the USB teathered method. This should not be TOO big of a deal today as most PCs have a Card reader built into them.

2nd SD cards themselves can make a big difference in performance. While it is possible to run apps off of the card that came with your G1/MyTouch its not really suggested. Most users have a Class 6 sdcard. Any of the the following from newegg should work very well : [tinyurl.com]

3rd Make sure the rom you download supports your SPL and Radio. ***You can end up with a non booting phone if you dont have the right SPL and a crappy connecting phone if you dont have the right Radio. Look on your phone in SETTINGS> ABOUT PHONE >Baseband Version. This number will tell you what radio you have install on your phone. Also if the ROM you are downloading states that it needs any type of special SPL, then I would suggest going with another ROM till you become a little more familiar with flashing. Cyanogens ROMs are a good place to start as they do not need a special SPL installed. As for the Radio if you have version62.50S.20.17U_2.22.19.26I you should be fine.

4th While I feel that Cyan Roms get the most attention and to some degree deservingly so. The most stable ROM in my opinion as of late is the JACxRom which can be found here: [forum.xda-developers.com] In truth this doesnt matter as most people in the community cant seem to keep the same rom on their phone for more then a few weeks, if that. So once you get use to flashing and what it involves, feel free to play with a few of the roms to find the one that works best for you. Also if you have a question about anything make sure to post it in this forum. [forum.xda-developers.com]

Good luck and welcome to the community.

I really like that little events notice on the front page. I wish my iPhone had that. Like a little area for text alerts that stays on the main page all day instead of the silly calendar alerts that ring/vibrate then go away.
