Stump Light: Light From a Stump

Egg Collective's Stump Light is exactly what it sounds like. It'd be a thematically appropriate bedside table-light combination if you've got a cabin in the woods, or a seriously dilapidated urban apartment. [Unpluggd]

    That's a Table All Right

Hey, it's a table and chair set that looks like the word "table." Rearranging the seats could also spell out "a belt" and "bleat." Amusing, but it would be better if I could seat people on swears. More »

Cox Speaker Table Combines Two Items, Ruining Both

This Cox speaker table is the sort of thing you buy when you have a lot of money but no time to consider how practical your overpriced baubles are. Who the hell wants a speaker that doubles as a table? More »

Skin Furniture Gives Me Nam Tropic Thunder Flashbacks

Furniture doesn't usually make me want to throw up. But this desk-and-chair set, from designer Nacho Carbonell's titillating Skin collection, makes me think about the stuff inside me that I don't like to think about. More »

Sancal Elipse Table: "I'm Trapped In a Table, But I'm Doing Fine"

Sure, you expect a $1,000+ table to make a statement, but few are as complex as Rafa Garcia's gravity-defying table with protruding forearms, allegedly a celebration of "the male spirit." More »

    A Glass Pool Table

Carbon Fiber Surface Table Is Thin, Really Thin

I don't know that anyone goes around complaining that their table is just too darned thick, but this carbon fiber "Surface" Table has been fashioned to a scant 2mm.

UnsTable Is a Perfect Place to Keep High-End Gear, Funerary Urns

By surrounding its thin (and hopefully sturdy) steel legs with movable blocks, the somewhat cleverly named UnsTable creates the illusion that it's on the verge of collapsing. The novelty would probably wear off pretty quickly, and the table doesn't have a great deal of mileage as a prank device. I mean, you've got to lure someone to your weird yellow desk, sit them down and have them scatter important, delicate items across its surface, just so you can sort of kick one of the legs to the side and make them think, for just a second, that their stuff would be broken. In any case, it's an attractive table. Check out the animation below to see the the UnsTable in "normal" and "oh no!" modes. [Core77] More »

SunTable Solar-Powered Gadget Charger Goes on Sale

Back in December we introduced you to SunTable: a photovoltaic solar-power generating table designed to juice up your gadgets in an eco-friendly style. And now the table's available for purchase. The stainless steel and teak production version charges up in about four hours of bright sun exposure (there's a hinge so you can angle it properly if you need to) and delivers about four hours of 12V after that. It comes with a built-in inverter, so it has regular power sockets that you can plug your gadgets into, and is designed to be weatherproof, easy to disassemble and even recycle. That's about it: it's a table with a solar generator built in... doesn't get much simpler than that! Oh—it does cost $2,200, so it's most likely to appeal to really rich eco-warriors. [SunTable]

Illuminating Table Opens Portal to New Dimension, Doesn't Require LSD

Probably designed by Reed Richards as an alternative way to get into the Negative Zone, Cinimod Studio's Illuminating Table is designed to a) create a "virtually boundless sense of space" thanks to a three-dimensional matrix of globular lights and different glass layers; b) transport you to a new state of consciousness without the help of chemical substances like kerosene, jet engine cleaning fluid, and aspartame; c) hypnotize your date to make her/him think they want some business time; e) all of the above. The fully animated light matrix can interact with the environment or display a shifting pattern automatically. More »

Thanko's Lazy Geek's Cushion, Perfect for Prone PC Action

Ages ago I admitted to being a floor-lounger, and it looks like Thanko has come up with a solution that'll let me combine lazing around and blogging for the Giz at the same time. I might rename it from Lazy Geek's Cushion to "Relaxed Blogger's Desk" though. Looking a little like a massage table, it's 31 x 19 inches across, and can be propped up at a variety of angles from flat to about 30 degrees so your arms reach your notebook... and see that little space for your chin? Looks comfy. No info on pricing, but I'd love to import one. I'd just have to persuade my wife that it's a good idea, and not ugly at all. [Akihabaranews]

Build Your Own Multitouch Table With the Cubit

Engineers at Eyebeam, a New York arts and technology center, are drastically reducing the cost of ownership for multitouch tables by taking them open-source. Schematics for the Cubit, a multitouch tabletop display, are available online for people who want to make a scaled-down Microsoft Surface for one tenth the Surface's price. More »
