    Seems ol' Louis' watch was bested by a 1925 Patek Philippe chronograph, which sold at a Christie's auction for 1.9 million. Spicy.

    Not a fan. It looks cool, but it also looks way too space-age to me to wear on a daily basis. I can't imagine ever wearing any other watch besides the silver-and-black 'lex my grandfather left me.

    Isn't it incredibly irresponsible to spend $250k on a watch? The sheer concept of a watch at that value is ludicrous. That kind of purchase isnt about fashion, and it's certainly not about practicality. It's a vain attempt to feign confidence, and it's really just indicative of the same kind of thinking that's brought our global economy to its knees.

    What brought the global economy to its knees wasn't spending money. It was borrowing money you can't pay back.

    @ar7983: Most of your high end watch collectors have a distinct love for engineering and craftsmanship. Some of these things take decades to engineer, and years to assemble, by hand. Once you hit ~$100k you're out of blingy poseur territory and into investment pieces.

    I have never desired any louis vuitton product, but I can say that I like the idea of a mini steamer trunk for my watches. Carrying them on extended voyages has always been a central occupation in my life, "as a luggage problem", that is.

    @iEro-Sennin: I work in an office where I have to lock my phone in a safe, there's not a computer at the desk I use half the time, and there are no clocks in the room. I like being able to tell time all the time.

    @iEro-Sennin: With the high end stuff is more about a love of design and engineering than practicality.



    In the larger scheme of watches this isn't all that expensive. Take a look at what a Patek Philippe Sky Moon Toubillon or Vacheron Constantin Tour de l'Ile.

    Very slick design, but the price sort of exacerbates my wallet's heart palpitations.

    Also, it looks like there's a tiny sentinel trapped in the middle portion of the face.

    @Kaiser-Machead: Yeah, for $250,000 you'd expect it to at least use magnets or something to levitate the center piece. I'm still not exactly sure how this thing works. If the hour and second hand are supported by sapphire disks, aren't they continuously scraping across them as they move?
