"In addition to making roadsters that no one will buy" you mean? This company to me is nothing more than a POC. Electric only is something for a few people that want to look like they give a crap out in Cali. If it isn't hybrid it's a waste of time and money.
The only way I would own one is if it came with free towing, because I'm sure you'll need it.
@Palmer74: In 1972 a crack battery unit was sent to storage by an electronics court for a charge they didn't commit. These batteries promptly escaped from a maximum security warehouse to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by Wal-Mart, they survive as powerers of gadgets. If you have a Game Boy - if no one else can plug it in - and if you can find them - maybe you can use: The AA-Team.
...I apologize for flagrant use of the italics and bold tags. It...it just felt right.
@UnderLoK: Check again man, they staged those "break downs" for effect.
Bottom line is they hate it because it's American -- a common theme in their reviews of domestic (domestic for me, anyways) cars.
@rcast1986: Didn't they name a Ford as the "car of the year"? Or was that just a joke I missed because I don't watch the show that often?
But yeah, the fictional break downs were pretty low. They're in a position to do real damage (not unlike what happened with Audi). It was good to see they "came clean" as quickly as they did. Though apparently not everyone got the memo.

Although Jeremy Clarkson has a strong bias against American cars there are time where he truly enjoys riding in one and gives an honest review. Like the Corvette Z06, or the Tesla. Even though he often complains about the steering wheel being on the "wrong side".
Predicting remaining energy near the end of a battery's run is difficult, so the 38 miles remaining claim is dubious. On top of that, 241 + 38 = 279 miles, still a far cry from the 375 mile record. Go Gizmodo.
@cgsofly: I'd rather give Tesla my tax dollars than the Not-So-Big 3, wouldn't you? At least Tesla isn't spending millions and millions on lobbying Washington to not increase gas mileage req's, and then asking for our money, yours and mine, when the market demands high MPG cars that Detroit can't build since it's been pushing Suburbans for so long. Sorry, rant over.
And 16 hours to get a charge is the problem you come up with? That's from a standard outlet. 110 volts. Of course it's gonna take that long! Don't worry, I found it for you: when you plug into a 240 volt outlet, it only takes 3 and a half hours. That's a lot less than 16 hours. I love top gear, don't get me wrong, but they don't give you all the facts, they're an entertainment show.
Watch one of the informative documentarys on Chernobyl. Look into what occured at 3 mile island. In general do a little google on nuclear reactor failures. Think about bridges and other critical infrastructure that are not maintained because of funds.
...Then, if you still feel it is such a light topic, dismiss concerns over nukes so lightly!
@twoHats: The latter is a 50 year old disaster, and the former is the result of dreadful soviet mismanagement.
You probably think that you're educated on the topic of climate change. But you're not. We're already at 387 parts per million co2 in the atmosphere. 350 was the ideal safe limit. 450 is the manageable limit which we HAVE to cap out at within the next 15-20 years to avoid mass extinctions, migrations and massive warfare.
At the rate we're going, we'll be lucky if we stop at 550 parts per million. But by then it won't matter, because the ice sheets will be gone, raising the temperature even more, the permafrosts will have melted, releasing gigatons more methane and co2 into the atmosphere and in short, we're going to be tremendously fucked.
We no longer have the luxury of being idiots and viewing nuclear energy as something dangerous, even while we strap ourselves every day into explosion powered steel rocket cars and fly down highways at deadly speeds by the hundred million.
so short term memory problems?... well, I'll take that plus knowing what's happening in the world.
They are requesting a $300 million bailout from the feds though. I kinda hope they get it more than Ford/GM, cause they are the company of the future. @SpeneyG:
@Max Butin: All cars are doomed. It's only a matter of time. Highways, however, will last thousands of years, for alien species to interpret as an attempt by Earthlings to communicate with other worlds by etching hieroglyphics on the surface of their planet.

It only went 241 miles. Not 341. This is no where even close to the Solectria Sunrise's 375 miles during the 1996 American Tour de Sol.
I hate to call you out like this, Giz, but who's editing this stuff? This is a brazenly obvious and flagrant error.

Record is 375 miles.

France is living on the edge of oblivion, I guess, as they get ~90% of their electricity from nuclear power.
