Don't sneeze or breathe too hard around this one.

We've previously covered the Samsung HDTV sets that are scheduled to make an appearance in 2009, but this super svelte one wasn't on the list, meaning it's most likely prototype fodder for the "thinnest HDTV" category that will surely get an exercise at CES 2009 this week.

The current record holder for thinnest HDTV is Philips with its 8mm prototype LCD, which was shown in Berlin last year at the IFA electronics show. Sony, on the other hand, takes the prize for having the thinnest retail television, a 9.9mm set that's already on store shelves. For more on the thinnest of the thin and their insane asking prices, check out Wilson's review of the top three on the market today. Of course, there's always the XEL-1 OLED set from Sony, at 3mm, if these are too thick for you.

<![CDATA[Dell 'Adamo' Could Be Lighter, Thinner Than MacBook Air]]> According to this teaser site and this fashion site, Dell has a laptop coming that may be both lighter and thinner than the MacBook Air.

The NYT visually quotes Tatelman, Dell's VP of consumer sales of marketing, with a reaction of his "mouth [gaping] open and his eyes [darting] away." Tatelman followed with:

I think we need to get some iconic products out there, so people associate Dell’s brand with other things.” Namely, that’s goodbye to clunky, and hello to sleek.

And an analyst says that Dell could "shave $400 off the MacBook Air price pretty easily." And a Hackintosh Adamo? We're excited. Sign us up for duty, Admiral. [NYTimes]

Engadget also has further details on the Adamo, saying it will be marketed as the world's thinnest laptop some time around February, featuring a black and silver color scheme. [Engadget]

<![CDATA[Fuel Cells To Go Bendy, Fit Inside Gadget Corners]]> Fuel cell tech is literally just around the corner from being inside many of our gadgets, and with this new design it could allow for some unusually-shaped gizmos. A company called MyFC is showing these bendy, flexible hydrogen-powered cells that can be draped over the interior curved surfaces of a gadget in a way that is tricky with current battery tech. The FuelCellSticker devices are just 0.11-inches thick and weigh only 0.2 ounces, and can put out 0.5V at 0.9W, though you'd stack them for more volts. There's also a more conventional-shaped model, and the company is starting to make them to order. Clever stuff. [Crunchgear]

That's skinny, though not quite Apple keyboard aluminum skinny. Due in October in the US and Europe for $80. [Press release]

<![CDATA[Sony's KDL-40ZX1, a 40-inch LCD HDTV Only 9.9mm Thin]]> Sony Japan's ZX1 series 40-inch display is only 9.9mm thick at its narrowest, and 26 pounds. The display itself has only 1 HDMI port, while a wireless box can send the 120Hz, 1080p display up to 1080i images over a 5GHz channel many suspect is WHDM. That external port box will have 3 HDMI, 2 component, s-video, VGA, and even USB, mouse, and LAN port. All menus will be driven through an XMB Playstation-style crossmedia interface. <![CDATA[Reachgood PMP So Thin It Should Be Called RAZR]]> This personal music player (PMP) from Chinese manufacturer Shenzhen Reachgood Digital is so thin, if you hold it sideways it's almost invisible. Its 5.5mm-thin stainless steel case makes it resemble a razor blade. But it's not thin on features, playing MP3 and WMA files, and also handling mp4 audio and video on its 1.8-inch screen. Check out a bigger shot of the thing to get an idea of its scale:

reachgood_big_MP4.jpg
It's not the thinnest PMP we've ever seen—that honor goes to Brando's player that only plays MP3s—with the Samsung YP-K3 coming close at 6.8mm. No word on when or if this might hit the U.S. market, but too bad the name RAZR is already taken. [PMP Today]

<![CDATA[Sizemodo: Helio Fin vs. Ocean vs. iPhone vs. HTC Touch]]> Here's how the Helio Fin, the thinnest clamshell in the US, stacks up against other equally thin phones. As you can see, it's pretty much the same thickness as the iPhone, which is amazing since the Fin actually flips open. It's slightly thinner than the HTC Touch, and is dwarfed by the bulge-tastic Helio Ocean. More Sizemodo after the jump.

<![CDATA[Alltel Gets Super Thin Samsung Wafer With XM Radio Mobile]]> Alltel's not usually known for getting cutting-edge handsets, but it may be time for that to change as the slick-looking Samsung Wafer SCH-R510 heads their way. The phone has some interesting features, with the celltop widget system, XM Radio Mobile, Axcess TV and Axcess mobile Guide.

Elsewhere, it has a 1.3-megapixel camera, weighs 2.7 oz., and will cost you $49 after a $50 mail-in rebate. It qualifies for Alltel's My Circle as well, which is their all you can call for free plan. A nice, anorexic addition to the Alltel lineup without any of the associated health problems.

<![CDATA[Nokia 6120 Makes HSDPA Thin]]> Nokia's newest candybar Series 60 phone brings combines two things that people enjoy: HSDPA and thinness. At only 15mm (0.59 inches) thick, it's not quite the thinnest HSDPA (that's the Samsung Z720 at 13.8mm) but it's pretty darn close.

Other features are the front video camera for calling, a 2-megapixel camera on the back, Bluetooth 2.0, MicroSD slot and a 2-inch screen. That video calling will be cool if Cingular and/or T-Mobile ever get around to allowing it.

<![CDATA[Samsung's Anorexia Thrives, Creates .74mm-thick LCD]]> Samsung SDI has taken another bold step in making cellphones even thinner with this LCD. This an LCD prototype that is .74mm thick. Samsung Electronics created a .82mm-thick LCD that was the previous record-holder and in the world of making the smallest phone possible, .08mm is like the size of an elephant. As a reference, Samsung's Ultra Edition phones, that are supposed to hit this spring, have monstrous 1.9mm LCD screens.

<![CDATA[NEC n703iu: World's Thinnest Clamshell]]> You know, with every damn company and their dog claiming they have the world's thinnest phone, such as the Samsung 5.9mm (.23 inches) U100, I think we'll hold off on any official titles. The n703iu from NEC measures in at .45-inches thick when closed. The outer shell of this phone lacks any kind of miniature LCD screen, rather it uses a series of 49 LEDs that flash in a pattern according to indicate whether calls, e-mails or text messages are being received. It's like an epileptic's nightmare. It is a 3G handset that will, unfortunately, only be available for NTT DoCoMo in Japan.

<![CDATA[Samsung L77 Is One Skinny Shooter]]> Samsung's got quite a reputation with its improbably slim cellphones, and now it turns its expertise on the L77, a midrange point-and-shoot that it's calling the "world's thinnest 7-megapixel camera." No wonder it's called L77, because along with that 7-megapixel CCD, it has an unusually long 7x optical zoom as well. But the big news is its thin profile—just 21mm wide—and even with its diminutive size, it's still able to accommodate a 2.5 inch viewscreen on the back.

Too bad there's no optical image stabilization on board, just Samsung's ASR (advanced shake reduction) which is just boosting up the ISO number for faster shutter speeds. Samsung didn't announce the price of L77 yet, but said it will be shipping in April.

<![CDATA[Samsung Ultra Edition 10.9: Slider Gets Even Thinner]]> We already thought the Samsung 900 was slim and sexy, and now Samsung has shaved 2mm off its thickness to make the most improbably thin slider we've seen yet, the Ultra Edition 10.9. Just look at that phone! How thin can you get? Any thinner, and you really could use this as a razor.

That 10.9 number is how many millimeters thick this slimster is, but it's not skimping on features, including a 3.2-megapixel camera, an MP3/video player, 80MB of internal memory and a microSD card slot. Look for this one to officially roll out on February 12 at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona.

<![CDATA[De-Pantsing the Samsung K3 Slim MP3 Player]]> We first told you about the Samsung K3 back in November, and it is on display at CES. Rather than getting the details of specs or prices or the release date, we took the au natural approach and had Jason cram the player down his pants. His official depants-ing review:

Thin, yet firm. Didn't damage the goods.
Okay, for real, this is the slimmest MP3 player to date. It is pretty much the K5 that we unboxed and reviewed the hell out of back in September without the speaker and even thinner. It supports JPG for photo viewing and MP3 and WMA for audio.

k3-accessoryWTMK.JPGIf you speaker fiends still need your audible fix, there will be a $30 carrying case-style accessory that the K3 slides into and provides a small speaker for sharing of your horrible music collection. It should be available with the K3 at launch.

The player will be available this March in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB sizes with prices at $119, $159 and $209, respectively.

Not price yet, but it's going to be available in 2GB, 4GB, 8GB sizes, and yes, it's still 0.27 inches thin.

Other specs: touchscreen icy blue and white versions, MP3/WMA/JPG, PlaysForSure, 1.8-inch OLED.

<![CDATA[Rumor: Ultra Thin 12" MacBook Pro]]> Another day, another Apple rumor. This one takes the form of a razor thin 12" MacBook Pro.

Unlike most of the other compact laptops available, the MacBook Pro will supposedly still sport a built-in optical drive and will also be equipped with a dual-core processor. It should fall somewhere in the $1700-1800 range. Still uncertain though is the release date. From what info is available all signs are pointing to around a February release. Whether that means a MacWorld announcement and a February shipping date, or a strait February announcement nobody knows.

What I do know is that this couldn't have come at a worse possible time, as I was just getting ready to sell my PowerBook and upgrade to a MacBook Pro. But what I really wanted was a smaller form factor with decent power. And this rumor is baiting me hook, line, and sinker.- Ben Longo

<![CDATA[Samsung YP-K3 In The Wild - Still Really Thin]]> If you couldn't tell from the shots yesterday, the upcoming Samsung YP-K3 player is really thin. Arguably the thinnest player from Samsung, if not anyone, that we've seen.

To refresh, it's got a 1.8-inch OLED display, FM Tuner, up to 4GB of storage and MP3/WMA/OGG playback. We bet you could probably stack three of these up against one Zune.

<![CDATA[Samsung D900 Gets FCC Approval]]> Looks like this Samsung D900, billed as the world's thinnest slider handset, just got an affirmative nod from the FCC, so we might be seeing the svelte cellphone stateside sometime soon. Its main claim to fame is its 13mm thickness and 3-ounce weight. It's also capable of video recording and messaging using MPEG-4/H.263.

This one brings even more impressive specs to the slim-phone arena, including its 3-megapixel camera with 2.1-inch 262k 240x320 (QVGA) display. It also has a microSD card slot so you can put 2GB's worth of pics, video or tunes on it, and listen to them with stereo Bluetooth powered by a digital amplifier. There's even a TV-out port if you don't mind watching videos at 320x240.

So now we have three impossibly thin phones coming to the United States from Samsung in the coming weeks: the P900, billed as the world's thinnest phone, the candy bar-shaped/6.9mm-thin X820, and now this D900 slider. Whoa. Thin is in.

<![CDATA[LG XNote T1: Slim and Trim to the Max]]> lg_gal_right.jpgThe LG XNote T1 is a 14.1-inch Core Duo laptop that claims to be the world's thinnest at just 21mm. Bringing the war of cellphone thinness to notebooks, LG has really compressed the thickness of this one—we're not sure if it's physically possible to build a laptop any thinner than this.

It'll be available in a couple of wide screen resolution choices including 1280x800 WXGA or 1440x900 WXGA+ , and you can also pack it with up to 4GB of RAM. Its Intel Core Duo L2300 processor runs at 1.5GHz, it has a 5-in-1 memory card slot, fingerprint sensor and of course, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. And, even with all this thinness, there's still a DVD burner inside.

All those specs are well and good, but just look at it. This is one gorgeous-looking notebook, and its improbably thin form factor and 4.2 pound weight certainly make it a candidate for traveling light. Pricing and availability weren't announced.
