Mark my words, there is going to be a huge market for thin, small laptops that cost less than $400. They won't be as powerful, but they'll be perfect for getting a little work done on the road or surfing the web at home. And they'll be called "netbooks." Yes, I know that trademark is already owned by Psion, but that's really what they'll be called. Trust me; my hindsight is 20/20.

Less than inch? Check. Not Atom but not the most powerful processor either? Check. Light (enough)? Check. The standard Macbook, anyone?

@atheos: some even dipping below the $600 threshold.

That's a full $700 less than the baseline Macbook.

Now I use an iMac as my main machine, so don't get me wrong, but there is no Mac that is "kinda cheap."

@regnez: @Zarian: That would be "some even", so the notion of them dipping below the $600, while a nice fancy promise, is undetermined. I'll reserve judgment for whatever products are released in the future.

It's a good thing that the slightly thicker and more powerful laptops will not disappear. Nice that you can stuff these into a bag with greater ease, but I also want something that has a better balance of portability and power. I like having something that I can plug into my peripherals at home and have the power to play desktop mode.
