Oh what a slow day, let's all whine about one of the 2 shuffle models that has the controls on the cable! If you think it is crap, get the other model, or any other iPod model. Some people will find this new model extremely practical, actually MOST people will never use anything else but the original earphones anyway.

Everyone is missing the point. Having the controls on the headphones means that if you swallow your Shuffle, you can still navigate to another song and adjust the volume as long as the cable remains plugged in.

Wow. I'm a big Apple fan, and this is a mistake. I'll bet at least 50% of iPod owners go aftermarket with their earphones. Now what are they going to do? Hunt for specific models made for the shuffle? It eliminates a ton of choice. I don't know why they couldn't make the iPod itself clickable. Can't be that difficult, just apply a tiny bit of pressure. Or put a tiny greyscale screen on it that is touch sensitive. Geez, I don't know, anything but this!

@The Magnificen7: Will this decrease overall iPod sales? The 50% who care about headphones are just going to upgrade to iPod nanos. The 50% who don't care will buy this. More $$$ for Apple.

That is, unless you are telling me that people are going to start buying huge quantities of Zunes. The sad truth is, that there are not any "cool" substitutes to iPods. They are in their own market category.

Of course they have to change the shape again. How are they going to sell new dock connectors and make it incompatible with everything else you've already purchased?

@Vroomtrap: Don't they usually come w/their own docks, and all the shuffles I have owned/seen use the line in on stereo type docks.

@NoO&A_GitEmSteveDave: The difference is that the first generation model didn't depend solely on a dock, so it was sold separately, since it had its own built-in USB plug.
